Any thoughts on this. Truck has been sitting for a year after installing Comp stage 1 cam, lifters and long tubes. Finally got a tune and started it up a month ago. After priming my oil pump. It fired right up and ran beautifully. I thought i could hear a tick but very hard to tell without exhaust on. So I drove around the corner to a local shop and had custom straight pipes put on. After that it was clearly evident there is a ticking noise on left side head area. My wife was following me back from the shop and said there seemed to be more exhaust or smoke coming from left tail pipe.
The truck seems to idle and drive okay. I haven't had a chance to pull the valve cover yet to check and see if I have a collapsed lifter or push rod prob as I had to leave town . Any thoughts on what you hear.

I can't remember the name. I want to say AMS... I know it was three initials/letters. My local speed shop who i trust and have been dealing with for last 25 yrs reassured me that the company who manufactured them supplies a lot reputable companies who package or sell under there own name. I looked them up when I purchased and they were manufactured in the US. I want to say Johnson but I'm not a %100.

The reason I ask is that I've yet to hear first hand of a single instance of non OEM lifters working.

I've heard others say that they've heard good things about Johnson. But never first hand, not even on this forum. Yet.

So far, every lifter job with non-oem lifters had the exact same outcome as yours. 100% so far.

Im patiently waiting though.

You need to put 1000 miles on the truck then change the oil lifters need to break in a bit mine where very loud still are just not as bad.

I cant even tell you how many times I heard ticking lifters after install, either cam or lifters. If it gets worse, the culprit would be push rods. I heard worse, I'd try a lub strategy. Join the canada redline thread, get a good filter FRAM ultra xg2 or similar. I wouldn't go with the OEM size filter but the larger ones, see filter thread.

Do you think ill be ok breaking my new build in with royal purple 5w20 before switching over to redline 5w30? Also using the high zinc Lucas oil break in additive. Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread.

Only run the first oil change maybe 50 miles at most, after it's back up and running, then change it again at about the 500 mile mark, then you can switch back to a normal oil change interval. There's really no break in required with a roller cam, once it's running, the cams basically broke in.
