Some of you guys have been talking about the ticking sound at startup. I have a 2016 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi. Bought it new and the first thing I did was change the oil. Less the 100 miles I put in a synthetic blend. Have almost 40k on it now and have never heard that sound. Changed the oil about every 3500. What do you think?

I bought a used 2017 Sport. After two months of driving, I began to hear a ticking sound during startup. I had broken exhaust manifold bolts on both sides

Maybe I should keep an I on the manifold bolts. How many miles on the 2017?
I bought my Ram with 26,000 plus miles. Currently at 29,000 plus. After startup and the oil circulated, the tick quieted

I think if you're running synthetic you're spending too much money on oil changing it that often. It's your truck though. Can't be too careful I suppose

My truck does this but only for a couple seconds. I always figured it's the lifters ticking.

make sure whatever oil you run has a good dose of moly in it. best is redline. but fca warranties do not approve. if its not manifold bolts dealer will tell you its normal. keep drinking their kool aid and run 5w20 or read the many many comments of guys going to (redline for example) 5w30 and having great success. its your truck so ultimately your decision.

Always try and solve this through the dealer first, always rule out exhaust bolts as well, then if it is lifters after you have done all you can, redline 5w30 with a syn filter like RP20-820 is all you can do lubrication wise. That is proven best at quieting lifters but there is no guarantee. First rule out dealer help and bolts, then consider a different lubrication strategy. Bottom line follow the science and go to pure science first before even considering junk science. Junk science would be oil thickners and gimmicks like ceramics, sometimes those might work as well, but the juice may not be worth the squeeze. If redline kills your tick the only downside is cost, your engine will be bathed in perfect lubrication with no other downside, proven here at ram forum with constant use since 2011 with multiple uoa's to back up with multiple members. 5w30 for the 5.7 and 5w40 for the 6.4 are the best choices, there are many reasons for this, they simply use a better base oil then even 10w30 or 10w40, it is in the tech sheets.

Why reldine works when other oils don't, ester based polar molecules and survive heat in those out of tolerance locations, which is hemi tick, branched chain pao base oil that also is better then mineral oils in those locations, super high moly that plates with heat, time, and pressure that is present in a hemi tick condition, high zddp that can also help. It is no other reason, it has nothing to do with a name or fancy bottle or business interests, in fact many people are also getting relief with other close formulations such as additives like lubegard biotech and mos2. The tens of guys who run around this place saying this stuff all the time are the same guys who killed their ticks with this very formula that killed ticks that other oils left behind, just the facts. If you have newer oil try 15 ounce lubegard biotech, nothing to loose. If you have a future oil change try redline 5w30 once, you owe that to yourself, it's not that big of deal to try.

Perhaps little excessive but I think it’s money well spent.

I used to play ball in Menlo Park. Most embarassing ball game ever happened there, I played for a semi pro team that was mostly a summer league for College players, I sat for a double header must have been 6 hours and then my coach called me up, the last thing I wanted was to take my at bat after sitting in the heat for 6+ hours added to a 2 1/2 bus ride, hit a can of corn grounder to short, tried to beat it out, fell flat on my face right before first base, lol. I felt like two inches tall, my team mate the next guy up in a sign of soliderity bunted and choose to fall on his face before first base to show me he had my back. It was pretty cool, I will never forget it. There was a bunch of us the coach didn't want on the team, he could have just said so, lol. He was heavily invested on the college kids he covered with his news paper, the news paper was the team sponser. No doubt they were good players, 3 got drafted but I never seen any of them make the show, 2 were pitchers and our center fielder had a damn hose for an arm, Mark Zimmarcky, I will never forget that dude. We all walked after that game, every guy who sat for a double header who didn't get any playing time. I heard that coach had to have his first base coach play in future games because he couldn't field a team. Just thought I'd share one of Burla's most embarassing moments in your home town.
