Time for a 5th wheel, what have you towed with your 6.4?

I'm just leveled, so I wouldn't consider it jacked up. And the Thuren springs I put in the front ride much nicer than stock.

As far as fuel economy, I wouldn't have bought a 6.4 if it was that much of a concern. So since they're never going to get "good" mileage, the truck might as well look how I want it.

I see. So make bad fuel mileage much worse makes perfect sense.

Which Thuren front springs did you get?

Does it need to make sense to you? What doesn't make sense is why you think it would. So, if I'm not worried about the 1mpg the mods cost me in mileage, you definitely shouldn't be.

It won't matter what you have in regards to leveling springs. There's about a 99.9% chance you won't even be able to hitch up with 35" tires. Been there and done that. I physically couldn't get under the pin until I swapped my truck back to the stock tire size. Even if you did manage to squeak under it, you'll be so far out of level with the trailer that you'll have way more to worry about than a mpg loss. :Big Laugh:

8" spacing between the bedrails and the fifth wheel overhang is a bit much. Realistically 6" is the sweet spot, but some have gone as tight as 4". 4" makes it dangerous if you're backing into an off-kilter site and you could crush your bed. I've been in some really wonky places with 6" of clearance and still cleared.

I'll never understand why people jack up their trucks.

Spending lots of money for a less comfortable ride, all sorts of logistic hassles, and lower fuel economy is beyond me.
It’s called “Personal Choice.” The same reason people who never tow anything, buy a diesel truck rather than gas powered.

I can’t see spending the extra money on the vehicle, because it’s diesel. Nor the extra maintenance required. But it’s their vehicle, more power to them.

Guy I sold my 5th wheel to had big tires and a lift and I was surprised (and very glad) he was able to haul it away. His truck had lots of squat with it attached and it was quite nose high but it still hooked up and had decent bed rail clearance. I'm not sure how many inches the was or how big the tires were.... maybe someone can guess from the picture.

Currently looking for a pop up with an 8ft box to mount to the front of my 30ft gooseneck.
Ill have enough room for the jeep, quads, and camper all on one trailer.
I only tow heavy 5 or 6 times per year so the 6.4L gas makes sense for me.

Stock tire size is roughly 33 inches. Going to a 35 which only gains a guy an inch more "truck" height is going to make him not able to hookup to a 5th wheel?! Give me a break.

On older 5th wheels possibly. Anything newer there shouldn't be a problem at all. Just like trucks are getting taller straight off the assembly line so are campers. Every camper we had when I was a kid had two steps to get out the door. Now it's 3-4 steps.

I was waiting for someone to say this. It's somewhere around an inch of difference in height, I'm doubtful that would cause an issue. If I had a four or six inch lift though I could see the concern.

The first travel trailer I had had one step, and drug the rear guard wheels coming out of every parking lot. Probably why axle flips got popular on the 70's and 80's trailers back in the day. My current bumper pull has never even come close to scraping.

Tell you what... don't take it from an experienced RV'er. Go buy what you want and hitch er up. Be honest and let us know the results. Take plenty of pictures while you're at it. :)
