Help guys. A few months back I got a code for camshaft timing sensor so I figured I would replace both. Replaced the crank sensor and fired right up. No problem. Replaced the cam sensor and no go. Bought another and again nothing. So I put the old one back in, nothing. Since they were Amazon buys I figured I would go get a couple from NAPA. Still no fire but the error had changed to ECU1 and ECU2. So I sent out the PCM to be flashed. Told it was fine. Reinstalled it and for S&Gs tried too start it..... and it fired up. Now it runs but won't Rev past 2500 rpms without running real rough as if the timing has been set a tooth off. I'm out of ideas any one have anything to try? Anyone? Thanks.

How many miles on it? Rip the valve covers off and see if the chains are sloppy all 4.7s needs timing chain guides upper and lower around 150k they break and the chain jumps. Also it is almost never the pcm you wasted your money with that unfortunately.

175k so yes I'm worried about the guides and chains but it seems pretty odd that it would jump just as the sensors are changed. I'm thinking it's something else.

You had codes for it truck knew timing was off sensors where most likely good. Check compression it will tell you alot if the chains where never done its going to 100% need them they all do it without fail another thing to know if your 4.7 burns any oil its the valve stem seals thats the 2 monst common MAINT items on this engine that need to be done once in its life span

Having done two short block rebuilds on 4.7l engines in the last couple years I am aware of the need, just trying to look at other possibilities before I have to build a shelter and tear it down in this cold weather.

Just do a compression test it will tell you all you need to know these are not complicated engines.

I was fighting the need to change out the timing set, but I've decided to get it done. You're right even if it isn't the problem it does need to be done. I was just being lazy and telling myself i have to many projects. Lol. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks guys.
