So my tipm went bad truck wouldn't start and when it did it would just stall. So I ordered a rebuilt one, installed it, and now my truck runs like a scared rabbit. What's weird is I have a lot more power and better gas mileage. Any idea why?

It’s possible the fuel pump relay wasn’t making a good connection in the old TIPM that was causing the fuel pump to not create enough fuel pressure...

TIPM is essentially a switch box. Power is switched either on or off through it, but I get it that some components are pulse width modulated.

Like said, maybe it had to do with fuel pressure/delivery, but the better fuel economy? I dunno.

I'm glad the newer trucks moved away from the TIPM, agree that it's probably fuel pump/voltage related. They seemed to complicate the fuel pump circuit in that setup for some reason and there was a history of bad solders.

What year did they do this, because i have a manual, ( factory ) of a 14 and nowhere in the wiring does it say TIPM, but theres a BCM that lights etc go to. So was it back that far?

But weirdly on a TIPM rebuilders website you can get one new or rebuilt for 2017s.

Calling it a " Power distribution center, only has fuses and relays, no circuitry i can see. Also i follow tail lights headlights etc, all goes to BCM, which is inside the truck, not under the hood.

What did they do in your truck?

They're not a TIPM on the 2013+ but they still have internal relays for a bunch of stuff....

I'm not sure where this info is coming from, but my 2017 Ram 1500 and my brother's 2019 classic most certainly has a TIPM. They might call it something different in the FSM, but it's the same old TIPM FCA has been using for years now.

It's essentially the same thing 2013 and up, it's just they moved most of the logic off of it to the BCM/PCM. The pre 2013 TIPMs had a second circuit board perpendicular to the fuse and relay board whereas the 2013+ it's just the flat fuse and relay board. The price difference between a 2012 and 2013 also reflects that.

I've been searching for a good generic Bosch style relay box that I could mount next to the factory relay box. Then I can desolder the internal relays and run wires from the empty spots to the generic relay board so the relays can be replaced.

Internal relays are right up there with Fords engineering genius of an internal water pump.5e303b3d18e4e03587be26f8bf948fed.jpg00cab99df15d1687c07d7f38cc81c087.jpg
