Well so far I think I’m pretty happy with running 45 on the steer axle and 40 or 41 on the drive axle.

Guess I should update, I’ve been running the BFG’s at 50 ever since then and though it’s a little rougher than I would prefer, I feel it’s the best pressure for taking away the sponginess.

OK, to each their own, but I don't see this as being much of a brain teaser... Look at the sidewall of your tire... There is a maximum inflated pressure number molded... Air your tires up to that roll on down the road! It doesn't make any difference of your rim or tire size... Just inflate to the manufacturer's specification and go with that!

That's the max at said lbs.
If that one tire doesn't have that much weight on it, it doesn't need that much air pressure.
If you do run to much air pressure for the amount of weight you have on the tire it will wear the center of the tread prematurely.

Now if I was towing? Yeah. Not, 65psi would make my truck really ride like a tank.

Oh and the manufacturer said 55psi is what I should be running.

Even the factory Goodyear’s that come on our half-tons have max pressure of 44psi but according to that little tag on the door jamb, 39psi is what’s recommended.

That actually sounds about right for your half ton.
My 2500 6.4 says 60 front and 80 rear.
I run 53 front and 47 rear with my 35x12.50r18 tires.
It all depends on your tires, weight of truck with what you keep in it and payload and trailer. I bring the rear up when I'm pulling a trailer with anything more than 3000 lbs

Their is also a number after the max psi which is the weight meaning at that max psi that is how much weight the tire can support. If your truck is not even able to carry that much weight then having tires as hard as rocks wearing the center is pointless. Use a little math and figure out how much weight your tires actually need to carry then you can figure out what psi you should be running . My tires on my reg cab short bed are 35-12.50-20 E rated 10 ply will also fit on a 3500 but we both sure as hell don't need to be driving at max air pressure all the time. Those numbers on the side of the tire are to provide you what you need to to know about that tire in particular to calculate what psi you need to run in the tire its not a generic run the max psi of the tire on every truck
