So bought a new ram 2500 and during test drive and even the ride home alls right with the world. Day later the tire pressure sensor comes on saying low pressure in right front and to inflate to 60lbs. Now i noticed the tire pressure readings were all over the place on the dash and actually checking them by hand. Now it is saying inflate rear tire to 80lbs which is way excessive. I have them all set at 68 to try and appease the dash light, but its still there it wants my rear drivers side tire at 80lb. Anyway do i need to go to the dealer to change what the truck has set as acceptable tire pressure? Or is there another step i can take that doesnt involve the dealer.

The thresholds for the tires on the 2500 are 70 lbs for the rear and 65 lbs for the fronts. You can run whatever you like if you don’t mind the lights.

The dealer, by law, can not adjust adjust the thresholds anymore, but there is a software program called AlphaOBD that can change them.

There is a whole thread about Alpha OBD and what’s required to do it. Pretty easy.

On the HD rams, the rear placard psi is 80, and the front is 60. The threshold the light comes on is 20%, so the light will come on if a rear falls below 64 and if a front falls below 48. If this happens, in order to get the light to go off and satisfy the PSI readings screen, you must FIRST bring the low tire back up to 80 or 60 (depending if it’s front or rear tire), THEN you can bring it back down to whatever pressure you want that falls in the threshold. Example: you run 68 on the rears. Passenger rear falls to 61. Screen says inflate to 80. Inflate tire to 80, and let the screen pick up on it so the warnings go away. Deflate back down to 68.
If you want to lower the thresholds, the dealer can’t do it. You must use the AlfaOBD software to do that. https://www.ramforum.com/threads/alfaobd.123982/

You could use Alfaobd and set them to any psi you want. Mine are at 35psi. I don't run the max when empty and in winter it fluctuates enough the light always comes on, so I set them to what I wanted them to be.
