I have a2007 ram 3500 dually. I purchased two new LT 285/75/r17 tires last year for the front. I just found some like new 285/70r17s for sale for 1/3 the cost of new ones. Can I put these four on the rear?

It actually says 235/80r17 for all tires. I’ve been running the 285/75s since I bought it five years ago. My question is will it make a difference running 285/75s on front and 285/70s on rear?

I think you'll have a overall height difference. Check with a tire shop on the overall dimentions.

It’ll be about an inch in overall height. Will that hurt anything mechanically speaking?

i think with duals, at least on 1 ton & above
You do not want the tires to actually touch each other
Some truck owners run a spacer between the rims

I have spacers on it. I’m just trying to figure out if the one inch height difference between front tires and rear tires will hurt anything mechanically.

2wd or 4wd? If it's 4wd you should never have tires that are different sizes (could destroy the transfer case). I wouldn't do it on a 2wd because it will affect braking and you may get an ABS error code since the wheels rotate at different speeds (don't know if 2007s have ABS).

It is 4wd and that answers my question. Thank you Jay. That makes sense regarding the transfer case issue. I live in Northern WI and run in 4wd quite often. Guess I’ll keep looking for some used tires in the correct size. Can’t afford $1500 for new.

Then you should be replacing all 6 tires at the same time.

Edit -> you should at least have all the tires the same brand and model. Just because they are the same size doesn't mean they have the same circumference.

If they are not E rated tire then no I would not put them on my truck, IMHO...

Assuming the 4 are E rated you could buy them and then replace the two front ones with the same size and make. Resell the fronts you have on now.
