OK. I have been reading the forums and all tire recommendation have been to go big but those tires are also not what I am looking for and the tire brand/model tire suggestions are from 2010.

I currently have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 and is my daily commuter. I travel 40% Hwy adn 60% city.

I am looking for the best tire for MPG and an occasional off road. Sugar sand at most about twice a year for camping.

I currently run 285/75/r16 Wild Country Radial MTX mud tires. They came with my truck but only have 6K mi on them. I hope I can sell them after my purchase.

Anyway, I was thinking about a 265/75 or 245/80 AT tire but I have no clue what is good and will last me a long time. Is an All- terrain what I am looking for ? What do you all think?

Excellent. What has been your experiences or heard about those? I currently have 3.55 gearing, will that tire size affect my tranny?Transfer case or gears in any negative way?

They are great tires. I have this size on my truck with the same gearing as you, with no problems at all. The 265/75R16 is a factory optoin size my truck was ordered with.
