5.7 hemi
Folks,

I am about to get a new 5.7 Hemi engine for my 2019 Laramie Langhorn. Without going into detail, my current 5.7 hemi blew up at 20k miles. After reading this forum, a lot of discussion was for and against using MDS.

My question is during the 120 mike break in should I disable the MDS or run the engine as designed?

Thanks in advance for your kind feedback.

G.

Nobody knows for sure but some of us have strong opinions on the matter including myself :) Some will suggest MDS is needed for proper lubrication (I don't agree) and some will suggest MDS might be contributing to warped manifold heads.

I have never used MDS more than a few seconds when I forget to disable it in time. Done that since the day I bought it new.

Thanks for all your feedback.

As for why the 5.7 hemi self-destructed, as I was told by dealer, a small CAM pin about 1/2 " long by 3/16" thick failed (1 in a million as I was told). This allowed the CAM to move freely inside the manifold under torque. The result caused the engine to destroy itself internally due to the timing failure. Exhaust, intake valves, pistons, crank, and the CAM itself were "kaputt" in seconds.

My first Dodge ever owned - bad luck...
