It was stuck in the permatex bead where the cover meets the oil pan, and I didn't notice till it was too late. It didn't deform or anything, just ripped in two.

Obviously ideally I'd get a new one, but the $80+ they want for it has me wondering, can I just put the two pieces back into the groove and put a small dab of permatex where the two pieces meet and call it a day?

New one is the best thing too do. Otherwise you might be replacing it later anyways.

To me that seems like a bad place to have something patched together. It would be a lot of work to take the timing cover off again later if it developed a leak.
