The ariz. sun has killed the paint (forest green pearl PG8) even where the dealer had it previously repainted. A few years ago this wouldn't have been a problem since I had a house/shop, all the equipment and no disabilities. But in my current situation I used Dupli-Color touch up spray and Rustoleum automotive clear in a few small sections. It looked pretty good but had a rough texture. Tried buffing by hand and it is still rough and now dull. Being acrylic lacquer, should I wet sand then polish? I'm used to spraying & using enamels & it's been a few years so looking for advice here. I don't need a quality finish since I haul things and it gets taken off road when I go to my "cabin", but I would like a uniform look. Any advice is appreciated.

Pics? Sounds like wet sand then polish but I would personally try a fairly aggressive compound (by machine) first then gradually reduce the cut with polishes.

Sorry, no camera. Gonna borrow my brothers polisher and give it a try. Even as it is it looks better than before.

I have used a 2000 grit to 3000 progression wet sanding, followed by rubbing compound with a 10 inch power buffer/ polisher on Duplic-color in the past. As long as the paint underneath doesn't have obvious color frontiers it looks pretty good; not paint shop quality, but good enough for a work truck.

I'm going to do some more touch up work then try the wet sand & power polish process. Thanks all.
