Hey Friends, I own a 2018 Ram 1500, Reg Cab, 4x2, 5.7L Hemi, 3.92 gear ratio, standard bed with a class 4 hitch. According to the published Trailer Life Tow Guide in a previous post and other official RAM sites, my truck's towing capacity is 5,030lbs. This is a lot less than similar RAM trucks of the same configuration; the only exception being the trim package: Big Horn or Tradesman, etc. Any idea why? I've also observed the Power Wagon has a lower towing capacity...Appreciate any insight you might have?

The power wagon has a lower tow rate because of its higher curb weight and limits on weight so you don't need a special license to drive it (it will pull more than its officially rated for). Why the sport would rate lower is beyond me.

If your truck is a RT model with 22" rims has a lower GVWR and payload, that's what lowers your tow rating. A Regular Cab 4X2 5.7 w/3.92 that's not a Sport/RT has almost a tow capacity of double.(a 2018 will have the same SAE rating as the 2017) Screenshot_20181230-135328.jpeg

Power wagon has a soft/off road suspension system which lowers its tow rating and payload capacity, compared to regular 2500 like my truck.

I can't imagine your truck has a 5k tow rating with the 5.7 and 392s. Something is not right.

Cool truck btw! Love the regular cab. If i was single I'd have one.
