Its been like this since the day I bought. Hasn't really bothered me, but its reaching my "fix-it" stage on my to-do list.

When I move the selector to D, the indicator needle rests in between D and 2. Even in Park it rests between Park and R. When I shut the truck off I actually have to lift the selector arm up a bit to turn the key all the way to the proper spot to remove it.

Is it just a matter of getting under the truck and adjusting the auto-tranny linkage? Or am I looking at something else?

Probably needs a linkage adjustment. The shift indicator is just a spring loaded cable that does what the mechanical linkage tells it to do.
