Driving home from work the other day, getting on the freeway with minimal throttle and my tranny violently downshifted. It then acted as if it were trying to to search for a gear. It was speratically shifting through 4, 5, & 6 gears. It finally caught in 4th and stayed there. I know this isn't healthy on my truck so I pulled over and turned the truck off and then back on. Problem went away........ For a couple minutes. The same thing happened again. When I got home I checked the codes with my tuner and got these: P0734 gear ratio error 4th gear & P0735 gear ratio error 5th gear.

I took the truck to the dealer and they ran all of their testing. They need to take a look inside the tranny to check for more causes of the problem. I think my tranny is gone based on searching online. Has anyone else had the same codes with so little mods to their truck?? Maybe I am driving it too hard??

You have a lot of mods. I just went through the same thing. It needed a complete rebuild. You might want to make sure they are going to do it under warranty or it will cost a small fortune at the dealer.

I have read of few blown trans on stock trucks on other forums. Not sure if the tuner has anything to do with it other than guys with tuned trucks tend to drive more aggressively. Wish I knew a more definitive answer on this.

I'm sure there are plenty of non-moded/non-tuned trucks at the dealer right now with tranny problems, too... I can walk across the street and ask my dealer if you would like. :)
I work directly across the street from where I bought my truck.:party36:

Yeah. I would really like to know. The dealer that fixed my truck had 2 other trucks in for repairs when I brought mine in but dont know if they were tuned or not. I always tend to think it was something I did or the way I drive but adding 30 hp shouldnt kill the trans. And I dont even do standing starts anymore, I have the truck rolling at 5-10 mph before I nail it so I dont blow the tires of or bang the drivetrain to hard. Also, I dont do wot kick downs when passing only part throttle kick downs. It does **** me off a little that I feel the need to baby my truck.

if you have an aftermarket stall t/c they are prob going to blame that and hope you put it back to stock tune before you took it in

and ill tell you right now its the clutches that went i went through 3 crappy dealer rebuilds till i demanded a new one ( sure they never got all the clutch metal out when they rebuilt it) since then i have had 0 problems first time and what caused it all was a bad tune

I put the stock tc and tune in before I took it to the dealer. I didn't want there to be any reason they can't cover it under warranty.

My trans did fine with my bolt on's. It was only when I ran the tune that I junked the trans.

My trans blew at 10k miles on a stock truck. Don't think it has anything to do with tuning. Just junk transmissions.

Thought I would post this here. Dropped my truck off last week with a out of town, in the country old hippy hot rod builder.
I posted all the broken items we found when we tore it down. I just picked it up and made the 50 mile drive back in to the city. No tuner.
My truck now holds the sifts longer, shifts harder under high pressure. And feel like it is running the best ever.
Let me get 5-6k on this new system and I will post a build sheet. If this works and I don't blow everything to pieces by then.
By the way, I layed dual black marks on the highway leaving hippies house. ;) no break in required.

I really don't think it is the tuner also. the 545rfe and variants has essentially been unmodded since its debut. then Chrysler has been sticking more and more powerful engines in front of it with poorly made materials and you have a recipe for disaster. and that's in stock form. add in 50 or 60 horses with a tuner that increases line pressure that makes the trans shift harder and faster with weak materials and again a recipe for disaster. I have read stock trucks burning up transmissions. I have to honestly say that it is complete bs that these trucks have to babied and driven like a 60 year old grandpa is behind the wheel. if I wanted that I would have gotten a chevy. i am interested in seeing how that trans holds up after the rebuild. imho, i think its the internals that are the problem, not a tuner. a tuner and mods just brings the problem to a head.

As soon as I get by truck back, I will be sending my valve body to sharadon to get it rebuilt. I hope this will help with problems in the future. I agree, I don't think I should have to baby my truck with such little mods to it.

I just got my truck back last week same codes, I was previously throwing a low line pressure code for about 3 months. Problem is that code never gets a MIL, I could never run my programmer because my transmission would slip and get wrong ratio codes for 1,4,5 gear. I had my transmission filter fall out at 10,000 KM's (CANADA) It always felt kind of ****** after that. The dealer continued to tell me nothing was wrong I begged to differ. I had my programmer, intake, exhaust, catch can, thermostat to install knowing full well my transmission wouldnt take it. I continued to get low line pressure without mods so I installed my stuff and got a plethora of codes. Problem was I would return the tune to stock and it would clear the MIL's. I would drive around and get low line pressure and nothing else. So the dealer remained firm nothing was wrong, so I dropped the pan and found it full of clutch material and metal. Firming my belief my tramission was screwed, I emailed hemifever to get my tune :) and I drove around with that ( 2.5 hours) until my truck wouldnt shift anymore. Brought back a ******* bucket of parts for the dealer, they had my truck for 2.5 weeks! Replaced all the clutches valve body, torque converter and filters. You did it to yourselves Dodge I tried to tell you it was broken! They claim the valve body failed and caused a blockage in a passage way. I think it was ****** from day 1 when I bought it, considering the filter fell out after I went up a logging road. It also used to drive itself away in the morning felt like the converter was locked up.

It's crazy how old these transmissions are. Over a decade one shape or another. lol

and you dont got to baby a chevy. The 6l80e is a strong trans... Wish we could swap it in. lol

YOU AINT LYING! Its a fun truck, but how fun is it really when in the back of youre head you know one day youre walking home.

I don't downshift hard either, but every now and then it does and I cringe EVERYTIME!

It's funny, how they continue to utilize them knowing how weak they are. I plan to upgrade mine I use my truck for work everyday so I need to rely on it, but feel I should'nt have to baby it either.
