Just want to see thoughts on how often you guys do a trans fluid change.
I have a 2013 1500 4x4 with 5.7 Hemi.
I don't pull a trailer, don't haul anything in bed that mounts to anything, mostly highway speeds for drive to work.
I have heard so many things.
Dealer says every 50,000
I have 68,000 on truck now and have never had any problems with tranny.
Thoughts??

Thanks

I would recommend going by the manual.

If the fluid is red, 95% chance it is good. I have been very impressed with the aft-4's as far as longevity. Somewhere between 60 and 100k would be my guess. If it goes light pink, get it out, it is a short trip to brown.

If you live in a hot climate I would change it every 60K. Transmissions hate heat. ATF +4 will change color pretty quick and can smell burnt after only 10 or 15K, but the fluid is actually fine. My opinion is the cost of a transmission service is much cheaper than an overhaul, and it gives you a chance to peak in the pan and see if there is anything abnormal happening.

Your 2013 has the 6spd?

If so I would do 50k. If you have the 8spd it’s 100k.

I am actually in a hot climate, and my truck is a 2010, and currently only has 30k miles, yeah it doesn't get driven a lot. But despite the hard city miles and years in service and mileage, when I went to change the fluid it was so bright red on the stick that I said I will wait a year or two even though I already bought the replacement oil, lol.

8 speed is lifetime fluid right? But 100 to 150k would be a good idea. But you need the correct fluid with the 8 speed, you need the pao based stuff for that interval.
