I've got a 99 ram 1500 with the 5.9 v8 and auto tranny. I was driving and it started to shake and vibrate and then I lost all power to the wheels. The side of the t case exploded and threw gears everywhere. Now the transmission selector does nothing but grind. Long story short I don't care about 4wd in the truck. How can I go about converting it to 2wd without getting a new transmission to run straight to the rear wheels. I'm looking for the cheapest and quickest way to get the truck up again

What you will need is the 2WD transmission extension housing which contains the overdrive unit along with the output shaft. Pick up a new gasket along with a 2WD driveshaft from a donor truck with the same wheelbase. Remove the 4WD shift linkage along with the front driveshaft. Pretty simple swap.

Quick question, is anyone experiencing clicking sound when putting the truck in 4WD, and not when the truck is at a stop, but when in motion.

Have you checked the front shaft UV joints? They may have dried.

Easiest and best way to repair is put another t-case in it.The trans has to be gutted to change the output shaft as far as i know.

Sounds like you probably ran it out of oil.
