Transmision Cooler

I am not going to be towing extreme loads but heat kills trannys so is anyone adding an additional cooler to their set up or is the consensus that the factory one is sufficient?

I haven't had any issues with mine overheating.

The eight speed likes to be a little bit hot. Even towing up and down hills I haven't seen mine get anywhere near temps that would concern me.

HD's don't use the 8 speed.

I traced down the tranny lines & the cooler is larger than I thought it was. I thought the 5" X 14" (approx.) little one in the front was tranny cooler but its for something else. Kind of surprised of how thin the actual radiator is.

I can't even find a actual Mopor cooler pic on line that is used with the ZF Trans...

I haven't towed far enough yet to get a good idea of the heat levels the 6.4 will produce with our load.

But I might consider it. A few times this year in the desert I saw some temps on the 1500 that I think resulted from the exterior temp and running the A/C.

Sorry I don't think I can do that. They are sandwiched in the middle. Ya got the radiator, a/c condenser, tranny cooler, & I think engine oil or power steering cooler all sandwiched together making it impossible to get a pic without tearing it apart.
Anything with some substantial size is going to drop your temp. On my truck at least there is plenty of room to add something. In fact there is plenty of grill that lets in air that is not cooling anything. Surprised they have not put shudders on these HD Trucks too.
If I towed a lot like "boldadventure" I probably would add another one. Doesn't hurt to have more cooling unless you get a speck of dirt or something in the line when installing it. The smallest piece of dirt will completely screw up an automatic.

I tow a 10k tt with my 5.7 and on a 90 deg day towing up a 6% grade at 70 mine climbed from its normal 167 to 175 at the top of the grade, thats with a factory cooler

Does your 2500 run the 6sp or 8sp?

Again, the HD's do not have 8 speeds. Only 6 speeds.
