Transmission Issue?

I had the U29 Solenoid Pack recall done. However, the problem that was going on to begin with is still going on. It has all the same symptoms as the recall suggests. The transmission seems to be somewhat “normal” from 1-2, but 2-3 and 3-4 it seems as though it wants to bog down and doesn’t want to shift. The only way I can get it to shift is to let off throttle. This is my first diesel and even I know this isn’t normal. Has anyone has this same issue? Also 90% of the time the “4 wheel shift” pops up. Which has me wondering if this is something electrical or just my trans going out, or something else. Thanks.

Do you have the RFE or the Aisin trans? I'm going to guess the RFE.
I just replaced my 66 RFE at 62,000 miles. I had to pay for mine because I did an oil change(ATF) when It started acting up. Mine was delayed engagement, never once threw a code. so it can straight **** the bed and never display a CEL or have a high temp.
I believe any mechanical misbehavior is an indicator of emminent failure.
Don't let the 'dealership be a bunch of douche bags and brush You off. My dealership brushed me off then 5K miles later trans imploded.
Be adamant they trouble shoot the problem, if no code being displayed they won't do ****, You will need to take them for a ride and show them the problem. If they still suck, take it to a tranny specialist for second Opinion, then take that info back. All
that if under warranty, If no warranty go straight to a trans specialist and avoid the dealership like an Ex. Go Soon to avoid any extended damage.
mine was $5,500, I Imagine the two auto tran 68-RFE And the Aisin both cost more.

People come in here for help because their dealerships just suck. We go to the dealers for help, and they are just worthless...PERIOD.

Your premise is wrong. From what FCA techs have posted, FCA Corp is the issue when it comes to warranty issues. Just saying !

It should be, let the dealers/ techs do their job and pay them accordingly.

To Rammerharder's point, you take your truck to the dealer and it's laying there on its roof dead bug style wheels in the air choking to death, they plug their scanner in and say " no codes, it's working as designed". Now that's not all but there have been some like that and I can understand how some of us get pissed at dealers in general.

That all comes back to FCA not wanting to pay the dealers to spend time to trying to find issues though. They have a pretty hard set of rules of what a dealer/tech will get paid for and what they won’t. I understand what you’re saying though.

I hate dealerships, but I have to agree with this ..

It's a business... So the math is very simple revenue - expenses = profits . Chrysler is simply trying to maximize its profits, and customer service is secondary nature.

That's why my next truck probably won't be a ram

I disagree, my local ford dealership beats the crap out of my local ram dealership. My wife drives one and has had zero issues with their service dept. I can't even get my cruise control recall taken care of.

Yeah, dealerships vary....My local RAM dealer did all of the recalls in about 45 minutes.
I wouldn't buy a Ford if it was the last truck on earth and I'd rather have a Ford than one of GM monstrosities.

I`m not completely wrong, and you know it, but i do agree partially with what you stated. The whole damn system is broken!

I would just say this, I have bought my last new truck. I don't care for none of the new ****, DI Turbo, Pre Heated gear and tranny fluids, gov't tech all through out the vehicles, blah blah puke. I'd rather spend my time arguing with local garage guys then dealerships.

I have a similar issue, my truck started with "4WD shift in progress" early on at about 3000 miles. Dealership looked at it at every service interval that I brought it up, never resolved. I had the U29 recall done in January and now the truck acts like the exhaust brake or tow/haul is on and shifts up and down under acceleration and deceleration, but it will remain in a lower gear at low speeds instead of shifting out. IT feels like it's in 4th at about 50 and will stay there as long as I don't increase speed and will only shift up completely to 6th at about 65 then will start shifting back down on decel. There's always a roaring air noise while this is happening. in the morning all is fine for a couple of miles then it starts doing it again after a couple of red light stops. If I get on the interstate it may not do it for two hours and as soon as I slow down and exit it starts right up like clockwork when I get into stop and go traffic.

I now have 152000 miles on the truck.
