Transmission temp

Hi all, just curious is anyone can shed some insight for me. I’ve got a 14 ram 5.7 with the 8speed transmission. Now that the weather is warmer I’ve noticed my transmission temp is near similar to my coolant. It usually sits around 88-91 and I’ve never seen it go over 92. After looking at some other forums this seems relatively normal, maybe slightly higher. Is this normal? I will be doing a new pan and fluid change this summer but until then just wanted some info.

If the transmission has never been serviced your due for a service.ZF says between 50,000 to 80,000 kilometers or 8 years,even if you're not over the milege numbers,you're over the year numbers by a couple years.

I got the truck almost 2 years ago with 130k km on it. Looked at the service records, but nothing in detail states it was done, just numerous vehicle serviced, and maintenance inspections.

That temperature is not unusual by any means. Keep in mind the trans cooler is either part of the engine radiator or in that same stack, so normal for the trans to run close to engine temp.

If it was dealer serviced,it's probably never had a transmission service.If it was my truck,i'd probably service the transmission.Be forewarned you have to buy a new transmission pan ,as the filter is part of the pan.Lots of us have switched to the deeper heavy duty PPE pan as it uses a replacable filter.
These guys are in Loydminster AB and are the cheapest place i've found in Canada for the PPE pan.
This is the pan that's been on my 8 speed for the last 7 years.

If it's staying under 95ºC (203 freedom units) it's still working within factory specs.

Once it starts climbing beyond that, especially if driving unloaded, the thermostat in the trans heater likely is failing. That is non-serviceable. However you can purchase a bypass/eliminator from: https://yourautohuckleberry.com/store/

Maybe an inch,i never measured the 2 pans to tell you the truth.
