They both have their weaknesses. I think the best strategy is drive them til they fail, and upgrade the hell out of them from valve body to clutch pack, tune for line pressure, TC, solinoid, basically touch everything except the drive shaft. Gonna spend near 10 g's, but then you will have something that can last a lifetime. People assume that because a truck is a diesel it will have a tranny that is a serious upgrade, sadly for Ram owners it isn't.

Well if you’re in a diesel you only have a 68 or an Asin. 66 is for the gas motors. My 66 in my truck is just “fine” but it has those ram quirks. I’ll drive it till it dies then just put a new one in.

Same Transmissions except for input drum and stator. Neither of them any better then the other. Only substantial difference is the converter.
Lots of upgrades are available.
