Hello! I recently purchased a 2010 RAM 1500 w/5.7 gasser. Yesterday she wouldn't start. Dead battery (?) Went to jump start it this morning and found what appear to be two batteries!?! ANyone know anything about this?

Also, I tried jump starting with no luck and even left it in the charger for several minutes...still won't start. Turned over once, briefly, but dead as heck. Any thoughts on this as well? I've never NOT been able to jump-start a vehicle before but neither have I also had a vehicle with what appears to be two batteries!

I don't see two batteries ?

You need to check the battery. If by chance it's the original, I would say it's done.

Not like any dual battery system I have ever seen? You sure that's a battery in the smaller box ?

No, I am not sure if its a battery or not but there is a red (positive) cable leading into it.

Also, I cannot understand why I can't get it to jump-start using my hand-held power bank nor my regular battery charger/Engine starter?!

Could be a bad connection of the ground (black) cable, maybe at the block. That box in the front is electrical distribution/fuse box, not a battery.

Make sure the connections are clean (wire brush works best) at the battery. If it is 5 or more years old, do yourself a favor and replace it. Bad connections will cause all sorts of problems, and the computers that run these newer engines don't work well if there are voltage issues.

It's not a battery, and you are lucky to get that long from a 2010 battery if this is the first swap.

Jesus Christ man,pop the top on that extra box,it's where your underhood fuses are.I'm not sure you should be boosting anything if you couldn't figure out that's a fuse box, lol.

The forward box is the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Management). Previously known to the world as a fuse & relay box. The positive cable is a feed FROM the battery. As others have said, if it's the stock battery it's probably toast.

He'll be sad enough when he finds out the replacement cost of that sucker. Damn costco doesn't carry our size. OP make sure you get the proper cold crank rating on your replacement battery.

You get what you pay for in batteries, especially in a semi cold area like you live in, get a high end one. Doesn't have to be Optima, in fact I don't even think they make one for the 2010 hemi ram, but you should look at top tier batteries with deep cycle, 850 cold crank amps (more then I think the 790 minimum), 3 year warranty or better type battery. Probably will run 2 huned.

Thanks for the helpful (and one smart-ass NOT helpful) responses! Was a bad battery. Wouldn't jump start because of a clear coating that had been applied to the terminals. Learn something every day!

That’s good to note about the clear coating.

wild one is cool dude and apologized, take it like a man, you must admit it was half funny.

You might want to PM h395 I think he has some info on Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery versus lead acid, as he lives in snow state. I'm spoiled in CA, but I think he has some info if memory serves me. good luck Burla

You weren't hard on him. you told him straight like a man. If he's offended that's on him. A boy needs to know what a battery looks like and where it's located. All part of knowing the basic parts of a truck. People that don't usually drive cars.

And you can make dang sure he knows where those fuses are now! LOL!

Anyway, he's back on the road now with more knowledge than he had before so it was a net win.
