I picked up a set of TYC projectors and they should be here tomorrow or Thursday. The HID's and the adapter harnesses will be here by the end of the week from Jeremy @ retro source. I am looking forward to installing these. This is a mod I have been waiting to do!

Man, I'm debating that exact setup or putting fx-r in the quads and painting them black.

A while ago I replaced the (broken) hid-headlights in my Audi S4 with TYC ones. Bought original ones a month later, because they were low-quality, ill-fitting, and the light output was horrible. Can't recommend them.

All the ones I have seen installed here have a great review on them. They are 2 different vehicles also, you need to compare apples to apples. There is also a chance you got a bad set, it does happen. If something doesn't perform as expected it gets sent back for a replacement or credit back to me. Sorry for that happening to you.

Compared to my OEM set,
so far the only visible difference is no RAM letters embossed in the lower outer corner
and the type of screws on the dust caps...and no more purple tinted lenses :D

TYC have better output than stock, because TYC doesn't use the stock fresnel projector lense… basically a clear lense allows a crisper cutoff and slightly better light output. I was thinking of tearing my OEM projectors and swapping to a clear lense just for that reason.

I have them on mine. The turn leds are more of an orange color than the oem ones that are kinda yellowish

The fun part? its not a standard 3" lens.........if you are going to get in the light, FXR it up!

I've never paid attention to that......might have to fire some up for a side by side shot!

I think you may be right,

But I definitely like the Orange Amber better than Yellow Amber
....matches my LED Concepts Demon Eyes

Well that sucks lol.

LoOKs like the OEM is much brighter as well on the turn signals besides the color change. Unless it's because Blackmamba has his lenses tinted. I wonder if TYC is using the high power Samsung LED chips which the OEM probably is.

Yes my LED lenses are tinted,

But there is also another important factor to consider,
13+ Rams that come factory equipped with Projector Lamps run the LEDs at full flash brightness.

Rams that originally came with Quads/Duals, regardless of year
and swap projectors in (OEM or TYC) only get about half power sent to the LED's :(

It's just programmed that way, and no easy fix that I can find so far
I thought a lower rated resistor but that effects hyperflash on signals

Here's a Canadian Ram with OEM Factory installed projectors
where the LED's are the DRLS at full flash brightness and only turn off/on for signaling.

5.jpg

My DRLS uses the high halogen bulb at half power, just like my old quads did
So I had JJ put Amber LED's into my new FX-R's and I turn my park lamps on with the DRLS
and it looks much better now

My first set of OEM Lamps (on my 10' that came with quads) Park Lights (tinted LED lens)

Flasher Brightness OEM lamp (tinted lens) This is how bright they "should be" ideally...

BTW...JJ had a set of OEM's on the bench one with tint, one without tint
...made very little difference at full power (trouble for *some* is only getting full power)

The stock turn signals are really fuking bright. I've seen a 13+ with his signal turned on way before the turn like couple 100 yards up the road and it was still bright.
