I have a 2018 Laramie with the 8.4 UConnect radio.
Is there a way to connect the gps maps app on my phone to this radio?
I have got my phone paired up with the radio so that phone calls are possible but I would like to be able to see maps on my radio while traveling without paying for something else.

Are you asking about AppleCar play? If so, then yes, easy once you have the app.

I have the same thing on my 2018 2500. With a good data USB cable plugged into correct plug in truck, you can see maps. For Android, you will use Android Auto (Blue triangle will appear on screen, click on it and you can use Google Maps) make sure the app is updated in Google Play. For Carplay, same thing. Works really well for me in Android. They make wireless connection options, Motorola MA1 is for Android. AAwireless 2 is out now, this and original is Android only but Beta Carplay is somewhere and AAwireless 3 will be out early next year supporting both Android and Apple.

I have to ask ....

When you connect the phone to the Ram Radio & use one of the APPS or Hard Wired, is the Phones screen Mirrored on the Radio's screen ?
So that the cell phones Navigation Maps are transferred to the Radio's screen ?

The phones screen isn't mirrored like it would be if you sent it to your television screen but its similar - Android Auto has its own way to display the information from the apps on the phone. I usually run Google maps and YouTube music in split screen.

Yes, identical Maps screen. I often look the destination up first and if I have been there before it starts right up upon connecting wire. If a first time search, the maps screen on truck is basic local screen but first couple characters brings up my last phone search.

One nice thing is that you can disconnect cable and do any search on phone. You can't search on native maps apps on vehicle while driving. At least not that I ever see.

Weird, mine is an exact match in my 8.4 to my phone. Maybe because I never updated the radio software from when I got it in 2019. I don't use any other apps in 8.4 so no need to update.

So you are saying to use a USB cable going from my phone into the plug under the 110 volt outlet would let me see the map that is on my phone on my radio?

If you have the bucket seats w/console, you should have two usb ports in the top of the console. One of those is the data port for CarPlay and you can mirror your map apps to the screen. If you have the bench seat, I’m not sure where the correct usb port is.

I do have bucket seats. I remember there being one usb port in the console, maybe two, I don’t remember. So are you saying just plug my phone into the port and then turn my map app on and I should then see it on my radio?

Starting with the 2018 model year, truck with the 8.4 screen radio support AndroidAuto and CarPlay. You'll need to plug the phone into the Media USB port in the center console (should be the port(s) on the left size).
You'll also need to make sure the respective AA/CP is installed and enable on the phone itself.
There's also wireless modules you can plug into the Media USB port so you don't have to plug the phone into the port, I use the AAWireless one, works great.

The way I’m understanding this is I still have to have some sort of app for my phone to connect to my radio? I have gotten my phone paired up so that I can make and receive calls.
If an app is needed, what app works for the iPhone?

I have a 2018 RAM 2500 Cummins Diesel & drove to Indianapolis (Once I could get out of Asheville after Helene hit) & once in INDY, my friends showed me how to get MAPS from your phone to come up on four NAV screen. I had to use the USB port inside the console in-between the driver/passenger seats. It worked fine in using your USB ports.

Thanks so much. That worked, just plugging my phone into the USB (left) port in my console once I had my phone paired up with my radio. It might have worked before I paired it up, IDK.

Open your settings on IPhone and go to General. There is a tab for CarPlay. Hook up with your cable and that will prompt you on enabling CarPlay.
Interesting , Never to old to learn stuff, I have a 2014, have played some music with the cable off the I 8 usally just on utube stuff. Old songs.
The hands free works fine, one plug in the the center consul is the charger and other is radio input.
I have never tried the maps on the phone when hooked to the radio, 8.4.
The nav. in the truck is still 2014 as I will not pay for updates.
Never get lost, and don't go anywhere much these days, but it will not show a few new roads ,
So I will have to see what happens.
MAJOR problem right now ,its -21 outside and I will wait till it warms up a bit
Have a great new year, a bit late, but I have been late for most of my life.
To late to change now :Big Laugh:
