Just 600 mi out of warranty and my audio system simply failed. I tried all the resets listed in this forum, no change. Took it to the dealer and it cost me $80 to have them tell me it is broken. Any other tricks out there? Also, what aftermarket unit provides great fit and function, but is under $500. Since the oem unit is VIN specific, are there Issues with the aftermarket unit in that regard? Thanks

The OEM unit is not vin specific. You can replace it with a RA2 radio out of another Ram pickup. In some cases you may need to enter an unlock code that you can easily obtain from the dealer if you have the Vin# of the truck the radio came out of. If you don't have the Vin# there are several places you can get the unlock code online. Most of the time the RA2 doesn't require an unlock code. Once you install the radio in your truck and enter the unlock code it automatically programs to your vin# if your truck is a 4 door make sure you get a radio out of another four door truck. You can get them on car-part.com pretty cheap usually $75 to $150.
