Every one of you needs to contact uconnect individually. The more complaints they get, the faster they can hopefully unfuck your systems.

I would also call FCA and raise hell so that they can put some pressure on uconnect as well.

I went out and checked mine as well... 8.4 RA4 2016 1500:
Software Version 17.43.01
EQ Version 17.43.01 (not sure why not 3.4 or similar number like others have posted)

Now - this is not the stock radio - I originally had the RA2 and upgraded to the RA4 via the infotainment kit. This presents a few issues...

I don't have OTA updates, since I don't have active uConnect account. I also don't have the required antenna - I have the puck (Sat/GPS only) vis the fin (Sat/GPS/Celluar). A plus I suppose as the updates won't be forced on me, however I can just download them and put on USB to install as needed.

The radio came out of a 2016 Grand Cherokee. I don't know if they have different updates based on vehicle platform, or if it's head unit specific - ie all RA4's get update XX. Since everything is VIN specific, I suspect there may be different updates based on vehicle and installation, ie Base Stereo, Alpine Stereo, etc?

I checked the uConnect update site with a dummy Grand Cherokee VIN - and do see that an update is available for it - however based on the naming it appears to match my current version:

UCONNECT_8.4AN_RA4_17.43.01_MY16_NAFTA

I'm not sure what the MY16 or NAFTA indicates - ie whether that ties it to a specific vehicle or install/stereo option, etc - but the version number is the same as what I have installed now, as it came from Infotainment about 6 weeks ago. Infotainment also stated at the time that was the most current version as well.

So, long story short - I downloaded it an have it on a USB stick, but I am just going to sit on this one for a while. I don't have any of the issues listed as being fixed by the latest update, although it may appear that I already have it installed, perhaps by Infotainment before shipping the HU out to me.

FCA doesn’t necessarily control UConnect updates. Try contacting @ramcares to maybe get connected with a uconnect engineer directly.

Reading on Ramforum.com several users are saying the same story I am affecting our 2018 RAM 1500 Bighorn Uconnect software update pushed down Sept 4th. The morning of Sept 5th my radio sounds like crap, very flat, all bass, very muffled, like someone is talking with their hand over their mouth.

I also noticed the software update changed the tones for the front parking sensors. I believe FCA wrote a software change to fix a bug with the front parking sensor audio and accidently messed up the EQ settings for the radio. Please escalate this report to the software team to write another update to correct this issue.

Got a over the air update tonight and I swear the radio sounds like the equalizer settings are different even though they show to be the same.
I thought I was mildly ******** for a few minutes when I was driving home from work 2 days ago. I had forgotten that Uconnect updated while I was at work and I couldn’t figure out why the sound sucked on the way home. What a crock. I loved the sound of the Alpine system until then. Now it sounds like a damn muffled stock radio. Not a happy customer here!

Yeah it's pretty bad. You'd think they would have a QC dept that tests updates on these units before setting them loose to the masses....

So I did a little VIN researching, appears the same update occurs regardless of model, the difference lies in the MFXX number, XX indicating the year. So MF15 would be a 2015, etc. Other than that the same file download exists for a RAM 1500 RA4 same as a Grand Cherokee RA4, for instance, assuming same year. Not sure what the NAFTA stands for... North American something maybe?

I had the same thing happen to my truck yesterday and everyone thought I was crazy. The screen had burn in for like 30 minutes afterwards and the sound now sounds like crap. I was able to make it slightly bearable by turning the bass down and the mid and treble almost all the way up. I’m going by the dealer today. I’ll post back if anything fruitful comes from it. This thread will be my only supporting evidence.

PM sent. I too have received no love from uconnect or my dealer in regards to this situation.

Go checkout this thread parallel to this one. RAMcares commented and is collecting VIN numbers for an investigation. No one seems to have solved this issue yet at dealers or with uconnect.

It won’t let me link to the thread. It’s in this same forum and named. “Does the update actually affect unit sound output.”

Done already thank you.

The weird thing about all this is I went in and took several new 18 Vin's and none of them show an update available with the same radio that I have so maybe they pulled the update already?

Here is the response I got from UConnect customer support:

1. Your vehicle's software should be at 21.9

2. You can check the current software by the following steps -Push and hold front defrost, driver temperature up and down and dealer mode will appear -radio part information -software application version

3. The update fixed the following issues:
  • Antitheft code request message.
  • Backup camera screen is blank.
  • Lines appear across screen.
  • Radio control screen is blank or locked.
  • Radio reset intermittently.
  • Unable to adjust audio volume.
  • Unable to switch modes between AM, FM, SAT or Media.

In addition the following enhancements are included in this update:
  • Improvement to Bluetooth phone pairing.
  • Bluetooth devices unresponsive.
  • Improved sound quality when using a Bluetooth phone.

Yeah, about that last "enhancement"...can I get rid of that one?

The one and only thing I want from any update is to remove the Bluetooth Auto Play upon connection. Most annoying thing about this truck. There is absolutely no way to disable it. I doubt uconnect actually cared enough to add it, but figured I'd ask, could anyone check if this is now possible?

Moderators I apologize for posting this in two threads but there seem to be two this is tracking in.....

Ok my report back.... the dealer told me I could leave it with them and they could nag uconnect but expect them to have the truck for a week. I called uconnect back and they opened a case. A manager will be calling me back Monday. She said everyone who has the stereo fidelity issue after the update this week should call and make an escalated ticket so that the guys up stairs take notice.

I read on FB that a few people had to have the dealership do a soft reset on the unit and that fixed the sound quality issue.

Just had this done two days ago. Did not fix the problem.

I'm completely bummed out over this. Driving around listening to good sounding music was a pleasure. I'd make up reasons to go somewhere.

Now? Have negative feelings about the truck, all negative about Fiat-Chrysler, don't care to drive it, really.

How is this performed?

I'm not too sure, but I would think there's a process to do a soft reset without having to have the dealership do it.
