I was driving my 2005 2500 149K miles 5.7 Hemi today after a two month layup inside storage building....drove about 60 miles to make a delivery....filled it with fuel and headed home...Check engine orange light came on about 20 miles after fuel but truck ran fine....got home for about an hour and then drove it to my storage building ....parked to back in slightly uphill. A few minutes later it will not fire.....my instinct is fuel issue.
We are second owners on this dedicated camper rig ....drove it 10K miles last October in one trip. Nary a hickup.

Where should I start ?
This is my first Dodge in 15 years.
Appreciate any and all help.

Battery is fine thanks...finally got a scanner and pulled three codes P0340, P0335 and P0344.

Truck started fine next morning....

Bummer....just about ready to leave on another long trip.

Suggestions welcome.

battery voltage ?
and battery voltage load ?

Edit :

The codes are telling you there is a voltage problem either a harness connector or the harness its self
You still need to check battery condition first.

in other words I’m not completely convinced its not your battery

this is the easiest way to do it without going to the parts store and getting done for free.
Using a Multi - meter with min/ max readings is the safest if you use a traditional load tester you need to disconnect the battery.

although in this video the minimum voltage is stated as being under 9.6 volts I would question a 12 volt battery going below 10 volts

So I took my battery in for testing at NAPA.

12.5 volts under load.....

Gonna clean ground connections next and put dieletric grease on Cam Sensors connection.

Any other insight.

Thanks

Yeah no sorry I missed this yesterday my notifications must be off,
I think you’re on the right track
electrical addressed move to connectors and look to the common relationship between the two sensors,
it use to be only three wires now with a fourth everything reports back to the CAN bus so if something isn’t giving back or reporting false info the CAN bus goes into a fit.

The over all condition of your truck something pictures can tell,
the fuse box should be something to think about since both sensors have fused circuits before the CAN bus controller.
ground connectors can affect signal and electrical connectivity

Try and stay away from Chevron I use Shell since I had more problems overall with them than Shell but I realized gas prices being what they are Shell is going north of 4.50 for premium.

How would you recommend extracting the old Cam Position sensor ? Leave the harness on and wiggle or make a took to pry under retainer plate ?
I bought a OEM sensor and maybe that will be the end of it ...

I need to extract it before anyone can test it.....

Removed 10 mm bolt....

Locating plate and sensor rotate freely....

How the heck to pull it out ?????

I fashioned a stiff wire handle and can pull pretty hard with it......

SEAFOAM “Deep Creep” or similar let sit wiggle let the penetrating oil work you do not want to break it off.4CB0E0CF-963F-4FE3-852B-39CDE21B0244.jpeg
The o’ring maybe sticking or the body itself the magnet on the end isn’t that strong.

Can ANYONE find me an image of the wire connector to the Cam Position Sensor ????

I cannot understand how to disconnect it in place in order that I can get a real grip on the composition sensor in order to extract that ........

I have studied all the other connectors under hood....none are just the same.......

Two Beers to the first person who can post a picture of the sensors and the connector showing the disconnect tab....

I don't dare tug on the connector or I will break it and then not be able to plug into the new sensor .....if I ever get it installed.

this is a 2007 1500 but a 5.7 hemi

At about 17:00 minutes in it shows the connector.

Don’t use a knife use a small flat head screw driver

Thanks finally got it off with your help.

The cam looks really dirty with almost grease looking stuff on it.

Is it a magnetic sensor ?

Should I flush some Sea Foam or something through it and then change oil ?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Truck ran fine for last 10 K miles in one month last November.

I hope your sensor change works I’m not certain on the average service milage for the timing chain but I think your truck may be near that interval .

Sometimes using a carbon cleaner like SeaFoam can cause other issues.

Maybe just change the oil and filter a little sooner this time around.

If you only make short trips and the engine doesn’t reach operating temperature for more that 50 miles at a time condensation can build up and muck up the oil galleries.

Most of what I have read on these forums says the timing chain should be service/changed around 200k miles. IMO, if you do that, replace your oil pump as well since you have to remove it anyway to get to the timing set.
