I finally had a chance to upgrade my 5.0 radio to the 8.4 RA3 radio this weekend, thanks to mpgrimm(mike) for the quality fan harness, after i retrieved the radio code, i noticed that the Navigation has already been activated!! What a bonus, considering i got this radio so cheap just for the bigger screen..
i will be selling my original 5.0 uconnect radio if anyone is interested. I will make a post for it shortly.

Radio can be had for 2-350 for the non navigation RA3, the Conversion harness run around 115-150, I currently have one for sale in the for sale section if it interests you, Bezel is $50-75, and HVAC module runs around $140. So total you'd be into it about $700

Year of truck matter? Have a 2015 with the 5" screen. Do I need any dash kit? Or is it universal?

You can use a RA3 or RA4 radio from either a 2013-17 Ram or a
14-17 Jeep Cherokee, just be sure you get the vin# from the donor vehicle, you will also need the single zone manual climate bezel, the 7 or 4 speed blower harness and the blower module to complete the conversion..

Nice ugrade. I'm still torn between this or aftermarket to get better features such as android auto but then most aftermsrket screens are 7 inches. Decisions

AngryRams, Yes youll need the manual climate control with the radio knobs from a bighorn model and a fan wire harness with module and also an e911 bypass for the radio, you can get the harness from mp grimm who is a vendor here. Here is a pic of what you need, its the center part with the radio buttons.

I just installed an alpine X108U with an 8" screen. The X208U has carplay and android, but i didnt want that so i went with the 108U. Plus it comes with preamp outputs so you get a cleaner sound than using a DRS1 that uses speaker level inputs.

My total cost breakdown is:

$275 for a RA3 radio from 14 cherokee

$85 for single zone climate panel from 16 Ram Bighorn

$175 for mpgrimms 7 speed fan harness and e911 bypass plug

$84 for the fan module from 17 ram bighorn

I have roughly $620 in total with my own labor.
Granted i could have bought a RA4 navigation radio for a little more but all i wanted was a bigger screen so the RA3 was fine for me and the price was right, it did have the navigation already activated which was a nice bonus..

Here's the thread for more info.

Just need to identify if your truck has a 7 speed factory fan (1500?) or 4 speed factory fan (ie 2500) to know which setup you'd need.

I'm currently out of town, but you can also reach out to my M2 Mods partner Deereguy to order the needed harnesses and/or see our Vendor Page.
