What’s up guys!

I’m at the point where I want to add modifications that increase performance and longevity. I like a mix of both, so I’m trying to find a few mods that help with either/or.

I have some cosmetic mods that I’d like to tackle (upgrading headlights, cabin air filter, 3rd brake light); and I live in Michigan, so I’m looking to have the underbody sprayed for protection. What are some other specific mods to my style truck that I can make to help boost performance and/or increase longevity?

Many things you can do for free: remove any excess tools, gear, etc. that you don't use in a regular basis to keep truck from using extra power for nothing. Don't waste money on cold air intake, your air intake is more than sufficient. Don't use higher octane gas than what is called for, it just wasted money. Do use top tier fuel to keep engine in best shape. Don't put oversized tires on as they just suck performance down a notch.

These can help with longevity, along with regular oil changes, keep all filters changed in a regular basis. Wash your truck regularly, preferably not at a brush car wash. Keep air pressure in tires at specified values.

Mods. There are so many. Check out the "what did you do with your Ram" threads in different Gen discussions, lots of cool things people have done. Check out our Vendors. They have some great Black Friday deals right now and are very helpful all year long. Everything from bed covers to lights to whatever.

Nice looking truck. Have fun, and post pictures of your progress!

Get an annual Krown treatment or similar to preserve the body.

An awesome performance tweak that will make you wonder how you survived without it.
Have a look at an accelerator controller such as a Pedal Commander PC-31 or a Banks Pedal Monster.

If you ever experienced driving a V8 in the late 70s or early 80s, this will give you the same experience. No accelerator delay, and it makes driving so much more fun.

I second Krown. I have it sprayed annually on my 2014 and it still looks new. I would stay away from rubberized or "hard" coatings on the truck (that will most likely actually trap moisture and cause corrosion). When it comes time to change transmission fluid (despite what they say it is not a lifetime fluid) I recommend using a PPE pan or similar which lets the transmission run much cooler.

Great idea.

Let's add Caulk's 8HP70 thermal bypass kit to that, too.

And, can't forget the famous ZF 8HP70 fluid level check/change Green sheet.

How cold do you want the transmission to run?

I went to check the level in mine the other day and the hot marking said '180 f'

Well, mine simply doesn't get that hot ..not according to the evic

The 6 speed
Its a '17 2500 with the 5.7

Even with pretty intense plowing for an hour straight yesterday, it dat at around 150
Do those get fed hot coolant like the 8-speed? Mine only stays that low if I turn the heat on.

Not a clue, but if you've ever done any snowplowing you probably know that the heater burns full bore and the temperature inside the cab is regulated by opening or closing windows
Lol, that's how I operate as a daily driver in winter. Its invigorating!

Neglected to answer your original question though, I "think" the ECM/PCM target temp for the transmission is around 190.
