I want to upgrade my rear axle to dually from 3500. But then I started wondering about if I upgraded it from a 4500 or a 5500?

Never seen it done or talked about. Would it be possible by just buying all new 19.5 wheels and tires? Obviously I would be limited by my frame but I’m still curious. Thanks!

Drw 3500 rear axle is doable and has been done plenty.
Going to 4500 is a 10 lug so you would have mismatch wheels unless you swapped the front too. Plus, the 4500 is Cab and Chassis so none of the spring perches would line up since the frame is narrower.

And air bags. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than just wheels. IE-brakes, etc. I'm just guessing from looking under a couple of 450's. They're an entirely different animal from the 1 ton (3500). Throwing on some dualies and fenders would be a whole lot easier if your just looking to stabilize the truck for heavy hauling. There are kits for doing that. Just saying.
