Ok I'm sure this has been done n I'm sorry but I can't get the search to work for me, but has anyone done a 5.9 360 swap in place of a v6? I have a 01 ram 1500 single cab short bed 2wd with the v6. Im wanting to know how easy it is n wat all may be needed? Any help will be appreciated

Well you will need a new ECU/PCM with the wiring harness to match. Do you know what transmission you have currently? I believe it will work.
94-97 are 46RH
97-01 are 46RE

I believe everything would bolt in the same, no reason for Chrysler to vary the frames based on engine.

Fixed.

You'll need the 46re trans and 360 with flexplate. Pcm and wire harness should be it electrically

Add correct driveshaft. I'm not sure on length of current vs what you need with the 46re

360 and 46RE should work with a standard driveshaft from the same cab/bed style (assuming you have a regular cab, shortbed) you'd need to grab a driveshaft from a 96-01 Ram 1500 with regular cab short bed.

Hate to say it but at this point it's almost easier to sell your truck with the current engine/trans combo and buy a 5.9

You have to factor in the cost of the unseen things - will the new engine need a tune up like cap, rotor, wires, plugs? Definitely will need coolant, an oil change and filter, you'll need to refill some trans fluid and likely the donor trans could use a full fluid and filter change. Also buying the PCM/ECU, the correct flexplate, etc. It's alot of work, and alot of extra money beyond what you see. You'll need a floor jack, jackstands, and all the tools to make it work.

Wow, I am shocked that the Trans behind a 3.9L is the same as one behind a 5.9L. That's about 100 ci and almost a hundred hp difference. I must be missing something.

It's not. V6 uses 44re. That's why i brought up driveshaft length because different trans

Not really worried bout the cost, engine n trans will have a complete rebuild with performance parts. I was more so wondering if I would have to weld in new motor n trans mounts or if it just straight dropped in

Okay! Fairly sure it will drop in. No reason that Chrysler would vary frames based on engines I think. Then again it's Chrysler.....
