I got the new fan in today, and the cable/connector on the fan has a lot more cable slack than i thought originally, i hooked it up to the truck to test it out and it works beautifully, and now it’s time to take the fan clutch off along with the e-fan. Say, does anyone know how to remove the fan clutch on a 4.7L? I know it’s turning it to the left to remove it unlike the 5.7L, but i really don’t wanna go out and buy a water pump pulley remover thing (don’t know what it’s called). Can i put more tension on the belt and remove it that way?

I just strung some ss wire through a hole in the pully and tied it off somewhere, that was on my 08 if its the same style.

I saw a video of a guy doing it by just tensioning the belt more. He put a 3/8 ratchet in the tensioner arm (3/8 inch square hole) and pushed it down to add more tension to the belt, then the fan popped loose easily with a pipe wrench (left-hand thread). I think this was on a 5.7 though.

I have a special tool that you use with an air hammer to take those off.

A wrench and a hammer can do the same thing just not as easy. Just put the wrench on, and smack the bejesus out of the wrench to loosen it.

Yeah I’ve seen the side by side comparison of pre-2013 a/c fans vs the V6e. Was under the impression 2014+ was upgraded and similar in performance.

Curious what it would take to integrate the Gen 5 electric fan.

Yeah I tried to get the Pentastar PWM fan to work. You can wire it in like a factory Pentastar Truck as the hemi harness is near identical but it can't be programmed. Jay Greene tried, nor could the dealer get it to fire.

Anyways the 3.7 V6 e-fan is nice, it's shrouded, cleans up the engine bay and works great with a 190 T-stat.

What temp does he turn it on at then, 206?

Does the system overcool and shut your 190 stat when cruising highway in lower temperatures? Just put in a Milodon 180 high flow, holds 185 much better than the traditional 180 spring thermostat I had in that was sticking after only a year. Seems to be the sweet spot for light engine loads with the OEM water system, emissions are higher but who runs cats anyway!

I believe the stock fan temps are like 220F.

Mine aren’t, once my engine hits around 204-206 my e-fan kicks on.

Do you have the A/C on at that time? The fan temps with A/C on are different I believe.

I could be wrong on the fan temps, I’m just going off memory of what mine were.

No, With the A/C on the e-fan will kick on as soon as the engine is cranked over and stay on until the A/C is turned off.

Yeah you’re correct with the fan temps from what i’ve seen with other members, but i think chrysler programmed the 4.7 PCM differently.

Oh, didn’t know you had the 4.7. Could be different. Not sure if the 4.7 used the 203 or 195 thermostat. The A/C fan will go on/off based on temp as well as A/C pressures. If it’s summer though and just city driving, it’ll pretty much be on constantly.

I think mine has a 195 thermo, anyways, something i’ve noticed which is different is that the 4.7L wiring harness to the e-fan has 3 wires, vs the 2 on the 5.7L wiring harness to the e-fan. I don’t know if i’m mis-remembering, but i think the hemi only has 2.

Correct the 5.7 only has 2 wires. The 3.7/4.7 trucks had a high and low speed, hence the 3 wires. The 5.7 only has 1 speed, high.

That’s really cool to know! I thought it was only the 3.7L that had high/low operation.

My Jay Greene tune has it set for 200. Holds pretty steady cruising around 195 and I'm using a Stant 190 T-Stat. Also keeps the oil temp more consistent, less jumping around then stock.

I did not want a 180 as I felt splitting the middle was the way to go between factory 204 and the race oriented 180. Also I chose to not modify the active grill shutter which I believe can't be programmed to open sooner so didn't want to cycle temp extremes between 180 and 200.

By the way, the Factory AC Efan by itself will keep the engine cool but it cycles on and off more than the shrouded 3.7 V6 Efan.

Did not know that the Milodon Tstat doesn't use a spring, interesting....

Yeah my last 180 was a stant, opening late (220) and not all the way after a little over a year.

Was running the stock condenser fan constantly for 2 weeks, so after winter the supplemental fan will be addressed. OEM battery finally is going at 99,4XX, Johnson Controls makes a solid core as long as you keep it charged.

I'm thinking the last step to this is having the 2019 DT PCM installed assuming the connector is the same as the DS PCM.

Sounds like the same scenario as getting carplay to work on the 13-17 trucks. Need the new gen UAQ heads unit programmed to the BCM along with supporting mods.

Once the DT PCM is installed we should be able to get all the features going through Diablo or HP as the new gen trucks. That's my theory anyway. I just need the extra coin to test it out.

I’m not sure it will be as simple as using the DT PCM. The wiring is different from the PDC to the fan as well as the extra PCM circuit for fan speed. You would likely need a DT PDC as well as wiring harness. Then there’s the issue of using a DT PDC in a DS, I assume there not the same.

It looks like the actual PWM comes from the PDC. The speed signal is fed to the PCM which then busses the signal to the PDC for the correct PWM output.

Be better off just using an aftermarket PWM controller for it if you really wanted the PWM fan.
