Besides how cool it looks when the hood is open, are there any other advantages to having the Vararam?

More power at wide open throttle. You wont feel much of a gain at part throttle, and I wouldnt expect any gain in mileage, but you will pick up about 18hp/tq to the wheels at wide open throttle.

Fixed. It's a Ram Air system. It won't do anything for you at a dead stop. You need to be jamming air into it like Peter North with one of his willing costars in order for it to be truly effective.

Yes and no. It is still a much less restrictive setup at idle, so there will still be gains as long as you are WOT. With the stock airbox, the engine has to suck that air through a corrugated and S shaped intake tube before making its way to the throttle body. The Vararam is a direct shot of air the second you touch the pedal. So yes, the faster you go, the more you will gain from the intake, but it will still be an improvement over stock at lower speeds as well.

Well the quality has come a long way since what this guy had installed, I gotta give 'em that. My VaraRam had a one piece molded piece that the filter sits on, so none of that "dirt entering from beneath" crap that I've seen on other owners of the older VaraRam. It will, however, catch bugs, leaves, whatever get's in the path of your truck. I pulled out a pterodactyl size moth from mine last night. It was freakishly huge.

Had a bird make it up the intake tube, and past the filter on mine...i consider it one the most gimmicky purchases i have even fallen pray to.

I know i have a 3rg gen, sorry, but if you buy something that destroys itself, you aren't necessarily first in line for the next model.

You are posting in the wrong section. The Vararam intake for the 2009-up is completely different from the intake you have for your 2007. Nothing about the 2 kits is the same aside from the chrome breather filter and the filter element itself.

My plan is run vararam during drag season. Stock air box with high flow filter and homemade tube the rest. Anyone know of the vararam will fit with the stock air box still in?

It will, but if you're going to remove the tube from the stock airbox, why not just lift the stock airbox out and put it on a shelf. It's not like it's bolted in or anything.

Was thinking I would remove the filter and let it dump cold air to the bottom of the intake too

You would need to go direct to Vararam if you only need a lid.

Or go to Harbor Freight and get one of their plastic welders. Never used one, but I heard they work.

I love my 4th gen Vararam, but not too fond of the 3rd gen style. Like anything else, it requires regular maintenance intervals. Nothing's set it and forget it, but I'm always messing around in my engine compartment. Sorry to those that I've already bored with this photo, but it'll give you an idea what can be done with some imagination.

I have the Airaid on my 2014 Hemi. Is the Vararam that much better than the Airaid or K&N systems for our trucks. This is my third Airaid on as many Rams (Keep forgetting to remove the one on there before I trade the vehicle:Stupid Me:) and I have been happy so far. But like most of us always looking for a little extra.
