Well at 91xxx miles the gasket on my water pump draped out on me. Plan is to replace the water pump seeing as it will be off as well as the the belt. Figure the belt is due. I was also thinking i might as well replace the lower radiator hose before that goes out and have to replace all the fluid again. Can you guys think of anything else i should probably do while doing this job or simply because i am approaching that magical 100,000 mile milestone. I already have the 180 t-stat as well.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

When you have the belt off spin the tensioner and idler pulleys to see if they are loose or noisy and need replacing. Maybe put a piece of cardboard or plywood over the back of the radiator to protect it. The last time I changed my water pump I dinged the fins and didn't realize it until it was all put back together and leaked all over the garage floor. New radiator = $225. :doh2:

Don't know about the 5.7 and I understand it is very different but on my 4.7L I would open the timing cover and check the timing chain assembly. Having the pump out the front of the engine readily accessible and it's only a few bolts and some RTV to add some safety factor to the longevity of the engine.

BTW, if you have to change the timing chain/gears, think of putting a 6.1L kit in it's place. Better and sturdier designs from what I have read in other posts, so if you ever plan on modding for increased power this is already taken care of.

Also if you plan on changing/upgrading the cam now would be the best time to do this as again you are almost there.

+1 on protecting the rad. this should be the first step, free up the cowl, slip in a piece of cardboard and then work on removing the Fan/clutch assembly.

Kepp us appraised of your findings and work. Good luck!

Haha A cam is in a hemi is a long way from being "almost there" when doing the water pump.

Just check the other pulleys and the hoses. Hoses are a mess to replace because of the coolant loss. Now would be the time to do them if they need it. But that is about it. Don't go pulling to timing cover to have a peek at the chain unless it is leaking.

I did say I was not that familiar with the Hemi's...

Better rely on Jwheeler's advice than mine... just saying...
