Does it do it cold or must the transmission be warm? I ask because I experience something similar but it's at highway speeds only after at least 3 hours of driving and usually with more than my normal payload (bed full family packed).

Sounds like what I experience too but in higher gear, at higher speed after longer time.

How many miles on your truck? Look underneath at the trans and see if there is any signs of fluid leaks. Anything can happen if fluid is low but for it to be low it would have to be leaking somewhere assuming it was full when leaving the factory.

This a situation where you really need to put a code reader on it and see what codes are stored or pending.

I had an issue with my 2017 ... stuck in third gear, no reverse ... Was able to get it to my dealership and it turned out it was the transmission valve body that was the problem ... Apparently they had a bad run on valve bodies due to metal filings getting inside during manufacturing ... At least that's what the service dept told me ... Luckily it was covered under warranty ...

Do you have a TSB for this or did they happen to reference one on your receipt?

SEMPER FI from an old navy Doc.

First, check and see if an auto parts store will check for codes. Near me it’s done for free.

You might want to drive easy till you get this corrected. As stated, could be a valve body issue, not sure that includes the sensor pack like the old ref trans. If it’s a hard shift it could be the line speed sensor. Along with other possibilities it could need something simple like a reflash. Best bet is have a dealer or trans shop diagnose.

I had the dealer quick relearn the transmission and it still occurs. The conditions to make it happen on mine happen infrequently for me (long road trips) so I'm not sure if the relearn worked for "some" time, but it definitely didn't last.

Sorry if I missed it, but are you new to the truck? Is this something new that it's doing?

It's possible it's not transmission related, but a U-joint, etc.

I'm at ~52K miles on my 2019 Ram 1500 hemi and I have to say I don't slam it to the floor at ~45mph too often for a comparison, but I can say if you have MDS on, it's in 7th or 8th and you mat the go pedal, I'm not sure what gear it slams down into. Other than feel (and really paying attention), there's no way of telling with the displays my basic SLT model has. I can toggle through gears "manually" with the +/-, but that doesn't tell you what gear it's currently in.

Yeah, get a scan. There could be soft codes at the transmission module ..which whoever does the scan needs to navigate to. I would check around on youtube or somewhere else and look up the solenoids. More than likely that's what it is. Not saying it couldn't be the valve body, but I would look at the solenoids first. Best is if you could hook up a 'good' scan tool that you can perform a 'test' of the solenoids a couple times and see if any fail. And/or, have a helper drive the truck and watch the status of the solenoids as the fault (tranny shift issue) occurs. That would allow you to narrow down what's going on and what the repair might be.

If you're heavy DIY, you have the shop space now, and you determine by diagnosis it IS a particular solenoid (and your truck doesn't fall under the valve body recall) .....replacement solenoids they're avail from RockAuto.com, Dodge and other places. Looks like your truck is due for a tranny fluid/filter change anyway. You could perform all that service at one time. After a solenoid is replaced it can take a day, possibly two of driving for the shift computer to do a re-learn and smooth out.

Or, better yet, take it to a dealer you trust. Probably the best idea. They see common things like this over and over and can consult their dealer network service repair logs. I had a similar thing going on with an RFE transmission years ago in a Jeep G/C. The transmission shifting was wonky too. I'm DIY, but I was overly busy with work and just couldn't get to it and I wasn't 100% sure exactly what solenoid was flaked out. $350 and a couple hours later they had it fixed. (they replaced a solenoid). That time the dealer came through and it was a smooth in/out repair. A guy needs to drop the fluid and pan to replace, so there's a bit of labor to work on the solenoids or valve body ...if that's the issue.

Good luck! Let us know what it turns out to be.
