Hi guys,

I bought my best friends super clean 2015 dodge ram, 1500 Hemi crew cab, 2 Wheel drive.
Love this truck more than I can tell you but I’m not enjoying the body lean in curves at all. It has 1905,000 highway miles on it and has the factory 275 6020 tires on it. My question is would it be OK to add some two 245-50’s or 55-20’s on it to get it down closer to the ground so it handles better along with a rear sway bar of course?
I don’t have money to experiment so thought I’d come here and ask the experts. Thanks for any help you can provide and merry Christmas!

I seriously doubt the lean is being caused by the tires and sidewall flex. Air them up to 50 Lbs and my bet is it still leans in the corners. With that many miles, it is likely shocks, coil springs, bushings etc that probably need replacing.

I agree with @Dean2 , you probably should take a more comprehensive approach.

Given its a crew cab, I'd check under the rear and see if it has a sway bar, I can't tell from the photos what trim level it is. If it's a laramie it should have a sway bar, if it's a lower trim like a tradesmen it could need one.

But, shocks, I'd recommend bilstein, end links, energy suspension, and a rear swaybar if you need one will help wonders, then if you're looking for a lower profile tire, drop down to a 22 inch wheel and tire set up, it will ride rougher but it will handle better. If you set on 20s, look for a full 4 or 6 ply tire vs a car tire. Cooper, Falken, or even nitto, or toyo offer good solid tires that can improve your ride quality.

But, unless you need tires, Start with suspension. Better bang for the buck to improve handling.

PS, I have a full stock swaybar setup for the rear, expensive to ship but if you need one, pay shipping and it's yours, it's in my way and it will take a big ass box to ship from Montana. I don't know what it will cost and I will not look unless you know you want it.

Take photos under the rear of your truck. See if you actually need one

Thank you both for the insight & excellent suggestions (and Bigsky, not necessary but thank you for the kind offer,I’ll source one local or get a Hellwig).
Forgot to share it’s a Big Horn. It was owned by my good friend who is a retired Master Tech (1970’s on) and he racked up the miles on the Hwy & took very good care of it.
As noted though there is still going to be wear but I believe the swaybar & checking everything you mentioned while under that could produce some noticeable results.
The Michelins are wearing very evenly, smooth ride, and there is not any noticeable suspension sag or lean at rest but I need to start collecting parts now because it is inevitable they’ll need replacing. Fortunately I have driven many thousands of miles with him in this truck going to drag races & picking up built motors (Buick GS 455 Stage 1) & my parts & when he just bought his SST-Hurricane he offered it to me for a great price so just trying to tweak on it a little bit & stay up on gremlins the second they rear their head.
He already had added the K&N Ram Air system & 3” Cat-back exhaust so it pulls very strong.
Again thanks for the suggestions,so I’ll look into all of that & come up with a plan before anything gives out.
Merry Christmas
Added pictures of my ever alert co-pilots & a few other pics of how clean he kept everything on the truck.

Nice looking truck. If you want handling keep checking in a few of us old guys, have some history with rams. Here's mine, two different ends of the spectrum

Black supercharged 14 RT RCSB, 2 wheel drive

White 2024 1500 classic warlock, 35s and not lifted

My bet is that your rear upper and lower control arms, and bushings are finished.
The arms are flimsy and have lots of flex .when they are older the bushings will get squishy .
This leads to a bad ride.
The aftermarket has a lot of good options.
Use our search function to find other’s experiences.
I changed mine to Thuren , about five years ago , am very happy with how they have changed the handling of my truck .

Many have reported success with Core 4x4.
There are lots to choose from ,so I spent a few days on our search ,studying what others have done.

I had bad wheel hop of the line , these corrected that condition.

Yup, shocks, control arms, poly bushings, swaybars, get you a lot farther than just tires.

Energy suspension red poly bushings
Bilstein shocks, 4600s, 5100s or 6112s
If you have $$ to burn, QA1s adjustable or viking double adjustable
Control arms, Thuren, core, apoc, or freedom, cost is factor
Swaybar, hellwig, or my personal favorite roadmaster from etrailer, the 2500 bar.

Tires and wheels last.

These Thurens weren’t cheap .
However these bars are solid and one will support your truck if you high centered on it.
These may have been a little overkill for my needs , but they will outlive me and my truck.
Then they can be reused or repurposed,or if they were all recycled at the same time , make a new Toyota body.

I’ve been running Cooper AT3s for 140K miles, 3 sets in, just over 6 years now on my ‘17 1500. They’ve been great for Arizona sand, snowy Midwest winters, and heavy Florida rains.

look into air suspension for what you're asking for...

Cooper stronghold is what I just put on. Use to have a little body sway the stop lights at the time I was running cooper ATP . Doesn't have the body sway sense the strongholds were put on . Louder tire noise now but what do you expect from a 10 ply . I live in Minnesota stronghold a lot better traction in the snow and cold !

Helwig rear sway will level it out, but as others said you may need a suspension refresh.

For can go 275/55R20 but the spedo will then be off.

I have been using Nitto terragrappler 2 , for the last few years .
At first the wet traction was very good,
But now at around five yrs of age ,they have lost it.
I do not put a lot of miles on , so the tread is still holding up very well , it just does not grab on wet pavement anymore.
I guess it’s time for some new .
Going for street , instead of all terrain this time.

So what was the upshot of looking for what was causing the body roll and lean. What did you find out. Thanks.

I bought a Ram because I wanted something that drove like a truck. Hated way the Ford drove. My 19 Classic has factory lift +1 or +2? I switched to 275/65/20 10 ply. But again I drive across the pasture and down in the woods.
