2014 ram sport has stock 275 60r 20’s. These tires seem to have a low sidewall profile and pretty wide. I do a lot of towing and hunting. Our backroads are very rough and these tires don’t absorb any bumps at all it seems. They tow alright. I think a slimmer tire would do better on snow covered roads too. Maybe not? I live in northern Michigan. I really don’t want to loose my ground clearance either so what size tire and rim sounds like a fit for me? I haul firewood too

I run LT295/65R20 (equivalent to 35's) Michelin Defender LTX M/S in Range-E for my summer set up.

EDIT - yes, these are wider tires than the stock tires. Just providing a reference on sizing up to a 35" tire on a stock 20" rim to gain more clearance ;)

Nicely brings up the entire vehicle, too.

However, I also have the 5100's all around on the stock springs with the fronts adjusted to 2.1" raised.

Perhaps consider this front & rear suspension set up and stay a max of 2.1" raised. Any higher on the setting and you'll need new UCA's as well.

Then you can stuff in some nice 35" AT or MT tires to get you trekking through your backroads.

I'd also recommend staying with a Range-E tire so you get the strength needed for towing/hauling, and taking the backroads abuse.

A 17 0r 18" rim with 33-35" tires would give you more sidewall. I run Hercules Terra Trac AT X-Venture, 285x70-17 E on my Ecodiesel and Continental TerrainContact H/T 275x70-18 E on my 3500 HO

You are absolutely correct, get the smallest rim that will clear the brakes and the narrowest tire that fits it

Added bonus, the truck will look a lot more like a truck than a pavement princes with the proper sidewalk

17s will fit, 18s, will fit. You've got 20s

If it's a sport, you have some clearance issues built in however you can run.

Without a lift. With a lift the choice is yours

A great tall skinny tire for snow would be the 255/85/17 mickey thompson baja boss at. Basically 35x10/17. Lots of siping with 3 peak snowflake certification.

But in my opinion, a 275 is certainly not too wide for snow performance. Also, the factory street tires in that size do appear to be ballooned/wide/squatty. A good AT tire in a 275 will look relatively skinny.
