Looking to get an intake on my 2013 Big Horn...ive had k&n in past but didnt know what was out there for my truck and what the best options are...i want the most gains but also something that sounds great! All stock except for flowmaster 40 series exhaust.
Thanks!

Vararam Air Grabber or S&B intake.

On the move..

This, and it depends what you like. For nice performance gains and a clean factory look go with S&B. If you want something with a cool retro look and functional ram air the vararam is the ticket. The vararam might get you a little more power but its not significant versus the S&B

What kind of gains does the s&b get? Also will it make a difference in sound

I have the vararam and I love it I can't here it as much as the k&n but trust me you won't care about the sound once you actually feel

If you just want a bunch of throttle noise go with K&N, or AFE, AIRAID, MOPAR, or one of the e-bay specials. You can even make your own with PVC pipe and an aftermarket filter. Stay away form metal pipe because it sucks up engine heat and transfers it into the intake reducing the overall benefit of trying to get cold, dense combustion air.

All that underhood noise you got with the K&N was actually the result of a poor, open top design. Supposedly that type of CAI seals against the underside of the hood and sucks air through the fender, but in my experience with a K&N on a Durango, all it reallly did was try and shake my fillings out at full throttle.

S&B uses a closed design reducing the amount of hot air from the engine compartment, and sucks from the factory opening in the right fender, but also has a second intake port low down near the front bumper level to get the engine more cool air; with an optional scoop to go all the way to the bottom of the front air dam. The throttle noise is reduced so you can have a conversation in the cab while at full throttle.

Vararam is pretty quiet too. That unit really does seal against the underside of the hood and takes forced air from across the top of the radiator. Consensus on RF seems to be this is the one you want for best track perfromance.

Vararam if you like its looks, S&B if you like that style better.
Or, cut a hole in the bottom of your stock airbox.

I agree with everyone here - definitely between the Vararam and S&B. Ihave the S&B and love it. You can hear a deeper "growl" from the engine when you throttle up and it's slightly louder than stock, but not so loud you can't carry a conversation.

Whatever manufacturer you go with, you need to be aware of your build date... If your build date is after 8/12, you will find there are few options for cold air intake systems available now... Airaid has come out with an update to the MXP series fitting 9/12 to present build date... I'm not impressed with that system, mainly because it requires the use of stock fender air port runner and it's not a closed air box... Volant has a great CAI for these build dates, closed box,100,000 mile dry filter w 99.98% filtration, bigger air port runner, with an optional ram air snorkel that pulls air from behind passenger fog lamp... Mopar has just came out with theirs... At any rate, build date is a consideration in this matter with 2013 and CAI...
