Is there a Gen 2 forum dedicated to Magnum V8 engine issues? I’m having gas smell strong after shutting off my engine. Looking for a forum where others may have had this issue and solved. Thanks.

Finally, after years of roaming about with piecemeal exhaust, ole Minion's finally got a brand new exhaust system! Pacesetter long tubes merging to a single 3" with a Magnaflow cat and Street Max muffler. Nothing fancy, but *******, does it work! Throttle response is waaay better than I ever remember, the note is bassy, deep, and subdued, but not too subdued. It honestly sounds like what you'd imagine an old school muscle car with factory pipes to sound.

Come hell or highwater, I'm forcing the time to install that Air Gap this year, then we'll see how the ole 360 really wants to roll.

I just got back to Oregon from a long drive into California. The priciest diesel I saw was in Bodega Bay, Cali. $8.20/gallon (at a 76 station)! On average, I'd say $7.40 was typical.
My ears were ringing by the time I got home. Loud tires on top of the loud everything else.
Man, that drive down Highway 1 was beautiful, and very little traffic in April. Summer is different.

Cap/rotor/wires today. I managed to fall into every pitfall except screwing up the firing/cylinder order, so it was a much bigger PITA than it needed to be, but certainly could have been worse, LOL.

Of all the cap and rotors I've replaced, this is by far the biggest pain for one, simple reason: the distributor being in the back of the engine tucked well into that little alcove formed by the hood cowl and intake manifold. Took something like a dozen attempts at the mounting screws to get them to finally thread straight thanks to not being able to see a damned thing that I'm doing.

Engine runs noticeably smoother and seems to have a bit more ass under load. Considering that the contacts on the old cap/rotor looked like well-used charcoal, it's hardly a surprise, LOL.

Did you figure out the gas smell? I had this issue with my 01. I changed my o-rings and seals on my injectors and replaced my gas cap and between the 2 no more gas smell after I turned the truck off.

Replaced driver-side brake hose in response to sharp pulling to the right + loss of stopping power while braking. Go to bleed brakes, and of course, passenger-side bleeder screw breaks clean off. Fortunately, I had a new caliper sitting around, so I just swapped the whole thing. Took about 100 cycles of pump-the-pedal-check-for-leaks before everything finally stayed dry. Is there a trick to this? Are you meant to just crank brake fittings as hard as possible and pray that nothing strips, because I always have a hell of a time getting everything to seal up when doing brake work because I'm always afraid I'm gonna break something, LOL.

At any rate, the truck isn't pulling anymore and the stopping power is much better. However, something's definitely dragging on the driver-side. I figure to gank the slide pins, clean 'em, grease' em and see if that does it. I really hope it's not the hub, because I think those are a real PITA to do on these.

Have a look at your injectors and make sure you don’t have a leak between one of them and the fuel rail. I found fuel pooling on top of my Intrepid’s 3.5 liter because of that. You need to check right after shut down since a hot engine will evaporate any leaked fuel pretty quickly.

Bumped my head on a row of freaking air horns. Planning to pull driver battery and tray to look at cruise vacumn line.
Last night i wrestled with power seat so i could move forward to reach clutch.
Also changed oil some kinda drain bolt sprinkler wtf effect took place.

Thats about it.

This list is growing longer daily, 60 axle seal, rear pinion seal, shocks, remove horns, cruise, seat foam cover, wipers, fluids, chuck 4 post mirrors, flat bed, weight loss plan to remove wide hips, good lights, ohh windsheild.

Sheees maybe i should sell it.

Last year I purchased a new alternator for my truck from AutoZone and attempted to install it. The pulley was the wrong size(too narrow) so it went back for a refund. My truck is an early 98 which was supposed to come with the 24 valve Cummins, but since they weren't ready in time the early 98's got the 12 valve instead. Could that be why the pulley was wrong? Anyways, NAPA had the correct part in stock, so I purchased a replacement from them. I don't drive my truck in the winter months and I made this purchase in November while the truck was parked for the winter. Since it wasn't going anywhere there was no sense of urgency about installing it, so it sat until April.

Once installed and test driven I took the truck up to Cleveland for a couple of days late in April. On the way back to Pittsburgh the check engine light came on and I saw the truck was overheating. WTH? I pulled over and raised the hood and found no drive belt on the alternator pulley. At first I thought maybe it broke, but no, the pulley was extremely loose on the shaft to the point of wobbling and had thrown the belt off. Well crap. For the first time in twenty eight years my truck needed a tow.

Once back home I took that alternator back to NAPA and showed it to the counter guy and asked if he'd ever seen a failure like that, because I certainly hadn't. This was a first. He hadn't seen anything like it either. I figured since I waited so long to install it there'd be no warranty, so I ordered a replacement. When I went in to pick up the replacement the next day the manager came out and apologized for the trouble the returned part had caused and explained that they had upgraded my replacement to new instead of rebuilt and were covering the cost under warranty. I couldn't ask for more than that and I hadn't even asked.

Not long after that the truck began to crank intermittently, so for the second time since I've owned it I replaced the solenoid and contacts on the starter. They have a tendency to wear somewhat unevenly, and since the solenoid can rotate slightly every time it cycles, as it begins to wear out it can land in such a way that it touches only one of the contacts, which means no crank. While installing the new contacts and solenoid I found that a rubber vent tube on the starter and the rubber boot for the power cable had hardened with age, so both of those were replaced as well. Now she's back to her old super reliable self again. This really has been a great truck.

I havent quite had mine for 28 years but nearly 20 actualy maybe 20.

Done tge starter rebuild thing last time i just bought a autozone one but kept the oe one that ive been rebuilding for 20 years.

I just put 3 belt tensioners on mine the 3rd one finally was good. I did this because the oe was warn and causeing it to make my belt run on the outer of the ac pully.

Parts these days are very fubarey even cummins is sourcing parts from china and sometimes marking them up 1000%

Today i messed with my non working cruise. Got tired of that and decided to do something fun.

I enjoy exhaust work so hacked off the stockish exhaust.

4" off the 3" down pipe. Exhaust i originally had on my f150 5.0 but it was way loud
36" 8" diameter cheap muffler and 4ft cheap stanless pipe sections. Stainless is less expensive than just aluminized.
I gave up on tail pipes poki g out the sides and back. Everything axle dumps now.

Truck is deeper sounding alittle more whistley but still quite enough. I run 5" and two fte twisters on the 02 more turbo and man this 98 is quite.
I may go back to 4" on the 02 kinda out of my loud faze.

Also picked up some metal to put the flat bed on the 98. Bed is coming of a 04 so alittle fab work to swap to 37" wide frame.
Im stoked cause man duallys drive me insane. Ride better drive better look better. Probly eventually fab a front bumper.
Since i started putting winches on my rigs i rarely use them to get unstuck theyre hand as hell puttung skidsteer and excavator tracks on and off. Seems im always finding g things for winches to do.

Yes the dang air horns are still everywhere

I found the pretty obvious culprit to my truck pulling to the left and feeling like something is dragging: the damned brake caliper was totally clamped to the rotor. Had to beat the **** out of it with a hammer to get it to let go, and you can well bet it wasn't gonna go easy even with half-an-inch of contact between the pads and rotor!

New caliper on (along with the rotor and pads I've had sitting in boxes for the last several years, LOL), ****** bleed job with my Autool powered bleeder (I friggin' LOVE this thing!), and holy crikey, night and day difference! It no longer feels like I'm dragging a damned boat anchor everywhere!

I think its going to look sharp with 3rd gen srw wheels only tires i have right now are 35s.

Debating what streetish tires i want to run. I run mud terrains on my 02 and f150.

The 98 will be burning freeway every day

Bed is sitting on the subframe i fabbed. Im off 1/2"ish. Need to kick it sround some. Measuring off door lines its off. Not visual though ughhh im just being picky. Need to just crawl under it and burn it in.
