Well KG, it sounds like you know what you're doing.

I'm going to keep an eye on your progress. Ought to be fun.

Don't mean to rain on the parade here but 1000hp internals and 500ft/lbs for $5500 is a big red flag to me. The guys I see building them right (Arlington, etc) are charging a lot more than that. I been down this road before and wasted money on crap components put together poorly by big talkers. Just be careful what you buy into.

Remember the golden rule... Fast, cheap, reliable- You can only pick two.

i dont know what you mean? a 410 kit from shop hemi is about 3200. So 2300 for the install.. they've built a ton of generation 3 hemi's. Look on their facebook they have a ton of builds.

The 1000hp internals is what Manley markets their forged rotating assembly at and what every builder can advertise their short blocks at. Arrington and the other builders do a lot more to the block and use lots of other parts besides the rotating assembly which is where the added cost comes from. The rotating assembly is actually pretty cheap and yes, the rotating assembly will handle 1000hp but things like the stock main caps won't but they handle 500ft-lb just fine with ARP main cap studs.

One of the best hemi builders is BES/HHP and their 392 stroker 5.7L short block is only $4,695. My short block was 1000hp rated and I've put 738 to it with my old supercharger setup and I paid $2500 for it and was built by a reputable builder (at the time) but was a "left over from unwanted client" price. In the OP's case, the engines are built by Inertia Motorsports who have a very good name in the hemi world.

Are we just talking about the short block here? if so, then my apologies as 5k sounds a bit more believable for a built short block. Understand what Mamba is saying as well, he's not claiming it would hold 1000hp, just that the components are spec'd for it. I will chalk it up to Saturday night reading comprehension. Even so, 500ft/lbs by 3k from a 405 NA build is a pretty bold claim. Would love to see a dyno printout of that motor/build.

Regardless, I don't know the vendor and not knocking them or anyone in the Hemi world. Just cautioning against believing anything without fully investigating the source/facts. Seen too many people burnt over the years.

let me just throw this in here to get some opinions, maybe matt will chime in.

With a build like this, 4.56 gears, 37s, looking for offroad power. What torque converter should I get? 2600 still or like a 2800?

If you are still doing research, you might take a minute to look at this web page. This is a guy I used to race with and against years and years ago. He built some good stuff that ran realllly good. One of the better engine builders I know. I think he has his prices on his web site also.

This will be dependent on what cam you decide to run and where you start making power. If the engine starts making decent torque at 2400 then you'd want to run a 2600 rpm so you're into the torque curve before loading the transmission but if your engine doesn't start making power until 3000 rpm then you wouldn't want to run a 2800.

My recommendation is to talk to the guys at Edge and Circle D and give them every piece of information you can give them so they can give you the proper converter for the truck and don't listen to people on the internet who will tell you what worked great for their build.
