I have a Hemi with an 8 speed in my 16 Big horn. I purchased my truck used a year ago with 20k. I have 27k now. Dont put on a lot of miles. 12 miles a day to work and back. Im averaging about 12 mpg. The most ive ever gotten is about 17 highway. A guy i work with, bought the same truck new. Puts on about the same mileage. He has 4k on his truck now. Hes averaging 19mpg. Said he gets 12 when hes pulling his camper. Should i be getting btter gas mileage ? and is there a way to improve it ? Thanks

Hebodrive, Maybe keep an eye on the guy you work with if he uses a measuring tape or counts money...
Ok, seriously, I have 4 crewcab 4x4's (no, I DO NOT know why), two of them with the 5.7. one with 4.7 (POS). The 4.7 crew Dakota manual trans gets 17 if you are gentle. The 5.7's both get 12 to 15 mpg. Both are automatics, both same ratio I suppose because 55 mph is 1700 rpm. I hate the mileage but more or less like the trucks. They are NOT a replacement for the 70 GTX but 12 is better than 5. Even the 4.7 is a great replacement for the wife, lol.
Seems like there should be a mod to pull 18-20 out of them. I don't know anyone with the 5.7 that gets over 15. Maybe different tides or a gravity flux.....

My 2015 is a 6 speed, 3.55 gears. In winter I hand calculate an average of 16.8mpg and in summer an average of 19mpg. I drive exclusively with tow/haul on at all times, my commute is 62miles of highway. My best tank has been 24mpg.

I get about 13mpg towing my camper with no wind on flat ground, any sort of wind and it drops to 11mpg.

Oh, and I guess if it matters, I have 164,000 miles on the truck.

my 16 bighorn crew cab have got as high as almost 21, average 17 to 19 mostly highway, around town would guess about 14. gas mileage depends a lot on the weight of the right foot. ones driving habits can vary gas mileage greatly.

I know i don’t exactly qualify for this, but my amazing 2013 4.7L with 433K gets 20-26 (on a good day with a tail wind, lol) with the 65RFE.

Seems like you should be doing better than 12mpg if those tires in your thumbnail are what you've got... unless you're really driving like a jackwagon. I'd imagine your 6 mile commute each way is barely enough to warm the engine up so you'll be taking a penalty there but dang you should at least be over 13 even on that. Is it all stop-and-go or do you get to cruise a little on the commute?

Who cares anymore with the price of gas now:banana-mario:
I think he's probably just concerned that something may be wrong with his truck. A lot of issues first manifest as lowered fuel economy and are best caught at that stage.
I'm guessing it's more related to his commute being so short though, never getting the engine up to temp and likely with stop and go traffic.
If he does lots of idling that'll be a huge hit with such low miles driven daily.

My last truck was a 2013 1500 QC 4x4 3.55's with the 6 speed. Over the course of 6 years and just over 60,000 miles I averaged 15.524 hand calculated. There were a few trips towing 8000-9000lb boats and campers and about 20,000 miles of it driving highway back and forth to work. Towards the end most of my driving was shorter in town trips and I'm guessing here but looking at my spreadsheet I'd say I averaged about 12.5 or so with the in town driving. I'd say you are probably a little low. How hard are you on the pedal? I used tow/haul 99% of the time unless I was on the highway going at least 55 MPH.

When was your last tune up? Air filter condition?

Looking your truck up in fuelly.com the 2016 CC 1500 Big Horn seems to be about 15.65 MPG averaged across 33 trucks.

I think it's because of city driving. For example; on a freshly fueled tank, I drove 120 miles all freeway floating between 70 and 80 and averaged 19.8 by the end of the trip. The next three or four days of city driving, it dropped down to 14.3. I want doing much driving either. My truck was usually just sitting around except for a few grocery store runs. I'm sure I was getting 11-12 mpg on my tank in town which balanced out the 19.8 I got freeway

Do you remote start your truck and let it warm up in the driveway, or get in a drive? My MPG's drop pretty significantly in the winter, due to both the winter fuel and because I let it idle and warm up quite a bit, which seems to factor into the averaging algorithm the truck uses.

My truck is not a big horn but 2019 CC gen 5 Tradesman. On the road (hand calculated) any where from 18+ to 21 mpg. The 18 was strong into strong head winds for 4 hours.
I can usually get 20 mpg on a road trip with no problem. In town (hand calculated) depending how heavy my foot gets, I get 15 to 16 mpg consistently. I check my mpg almost every tank. I generally run Shell 87 gas.

Looked at it yesterday. I lock out the MDS using the gear selector on the steering wheel. I am someone who bought an eight cylinder truck, so I want eight cylinders all the time. I am averaging right at 24 mpg. The majority of that is highway / interstate but in my opinion thats tough to beat.

Just to verify, starting in the morning I drive pretty conservative to let things warm up. When I accelerate I try to never go above 2000 rpm, easy acceleration, not flying off the line like its a race. Rarely gun it in traffic. I set the cruise control to 55 on the expressway / interstate. I dont care what the speed limit is. If you take care of your truck it will take care of you.

On winter blend gas im currently getting about 11mpg. And 12 on the highway on a good day

Summer blend i will see mid 12’s in town and around 13 on the highway.

And that is EVIC number. Probably worse if hand calculated

I have 2018 CC 2500 4x4 8' bed with 6.4 Hemi and 6 speed rfe with 3.73 rear. With daily driving about 16 miles round-trip city I get 11.5. highway straight through for 4.5 hours average 70 mph I get maybe 15 mpg. I didn't buy for the mpg, obviously.
