I broke that thing just a couple of days after getting my truck because I just can't leave stuff alone. :shrug:
I thought it was a button to open the little square thing around it.

At first i thought that it might be a Proximity Sensor, but the other mirror would have the same thing on it

I never liked the ambient temperature sensor in the driver's side mirror, it is always incorrect, because it is surrounded by hot plastic, reflective glass from the side window & a metal door

The engineers must not have studied how temperature gauges work

When you mount an outside temp gauge on a tree, you are supposed to mount it above the tree trunk at the line of where the leaves begin & the breeze can pass over it.

Before they mounted them in the mirror, they mounted them behind the grille & off to the drivers side of the radiator & condenser fins & the temp gauge reading was real close to correct

Just wait until you do a quick car wash and it’s 93 outside and the gauge says 68. It’s going to blow your mind. Then the water clears and it goes back to normal.

Very true. I was always amazed at how accurate it was and the reading never seemed to be affected by baking in the sun. The new mirror mount-not so amazed.

The remote start antenna is behind the back seat on the drivers side near the vent

It is called a RF Module

Is this the same RF antenna/module that provides the signal for the proximity sensor to unlock the door when you grab it and to lock when you push the button on the handle?

From what i understand, the RF Module is what allows the FOB or RKE to function

Fun Facts:

FOB is short for FOBIK = Frequency Operated Button Ignition Key

RKE = Remote Keyless Entry
