What to do next??

Hey all!

I'm new to the forum, but have learned a lot already from reading other threads. I have already installed an S&B CAI and the BT catch can is on its way, but I'm wondering what to do next for better MPG gains. I'm leaning toward the Mufflex 14" and Moe's 85 mm PTB. I was only going to do one now and the other later. Will either get me better gains individually, or will i need to do both to see a marked improvement?

TB will not increase MPG!!

A muffler will help a little, but the biggest thing is how you drive.

Explain to your wife/girl friend / banker that a TB will increase throttle response meaning you need less throttle and should therefore save gas. Reality the throttle response will have you heavy on the skinny pedal and will delay any change in your driving habits.

On the other hand, go with the Mufflex, a small reduction in back pressure and more of that throaty Hemi sound so you do not have to get on the skinny pedal as much to feed your inner gear head.

By the way this is heresy, so don't let the other wrenches and gear heads know I told you so.....

Thought about the tuner as well. Don't want to risk the warranty on it though. Would that be an issue? I plan on doing my own oil changes and would only really take it in for major issues.

I was leaning toward the Mufflex next. I know it's not going to be a massive increase in MPG, but every little increase helps!

Gotta say though, hanging out on the RF site isn't helping me save money anyway - making me want to spend it!

U can always take the tune off before you go to the dealer so I wouldn't really worry about the warranty to much

That's true. How difficult is a tuner to install? I've done some underhood stuff, but never messed with the programming much.

The superchip is what I have and it was just plug it in and push a few buttons. Its pretty simple and you will see more gains with a tuner than anything else

they are very easy to install. if you dont tune it more than a few times you will be fine as far as the warranty goes

You should then when you do the other stuff it will only get better

Personally, I'd do the muffler first. The heavy stock "school bus" muffler is hugely restrictive. You've already spent your money on a good CAI kit, but improving your intake without a corresponding improvement on the exhaust side is of little worth. This is why I'd address the exhaust system next.

You probably won't see much of a performance gain from just the muffler, but it will sound a heck of alot better.

How much does a decent tuner cost? I don't know anything about them.
