what will give more value?
Overhaul engine or newer year engine with 30,000 miles.

Overhaul original engine would easily have more value. Unless you are getting a newer tranny too. What is wrong with it?

diesel swap will increase value the most but is most expensive option

Well ya for sure, if you drop a Cummins in there that would add most value. But apples to apples, new pistons and a overhaul will add more value then sticking a used engine in there.

Newer engines are hands down way more money to rebuild than dropping in a slightly used engine. This is coming from working with LS motors so take it for what its worth but I know you could come pretty close to the cost of a crate motor with how much some of the rebuilds are.

just get a cummins and be done with it easy find a wrecked truck by it gut it and sell the rest to scrap metal best doner would be a side swipe or rear end collision you want one with a good fuel tank to cut down on cost

a 2500 or 3500 with no engine will sell in scrap metal for something around 700 bucks

and the axels will sell to some one fore big bucks if there not damaged but even banged up there work money
