Whats going on?

I have an '06 3.7L V6 with 62500mi. with K&N CAI and VX exhaust with dual side exit tips infront of right rear tire. Lately I have been getting great gas mileage, right now Im just under 1/2 tank with 250 miles. Normally its at around 200 miles. My driving style hasn't changed, if anything Ive been more aggressive over the last two weeks.

Question 1- When Im accelerating on the highway, at around 50-55 mph, the tach drops from 2500 down to 1200-1500. The engine sounds like I stepped off the gas. What is going on?

Question 2- Tonight I went for a drive and noticed that when I started up the truck it was idelling around 500, and continued to idel at 500 at stop lights. Was this just because my engine was warm, I had just gotten home about 1.5 hrs before?

Welcome to the forum for the first part. I believe most of the trucks idle around 500-550 warm stock and the fuels are changing again from winter to spring/summer grades.

Winter blend blows..... mine idles over 600, course the only reason i know that is via tuner(my tach is "special").but there is probably a difference between a 5.7 and 3.7. When was a tune up done last?

Welcome to RamForum. I don't have any experience with the v6, but my 05 4.7 also idles at 500.

hey man finally nice to see another V6 on here...i think i been the only one for a while now..welcome...my truck idles around 500 as well so theres no problem there..but as for your tach drop, i think its interesting how u said your at 2500rpm at 50-55, im usually barely tapping 2000 at the point...now anything lower then that unusual im sure...and you say your at 250 miles at barely under half a tank? how are you managing that? im at 270 and half a little over an 1/8 left =/

Tach drop off could be going into OD, I mean normal/light throttle will have shift changes at lower speeds and rpms.
