Thanks...pulling my 6000# 28' travel trailer I have not seen over 200* I dont think..I stay 69/70 and have not been in mountains with it but texas hill country type terrain. oil temp around 235-40. I use the full synthetic from free dealer oil changes. going to pull it up to lake murray in ok. tomorrow so will make a note of the temp since will be a heat advisory day.
It's running full synthetic from the dealer.Making them Eagle heads work... Hope you are running a quality synthetic oil or short(3K) intervals.
That ZF 8 speed not even breaking a sweat though.
I had no issues with the engine pulling, it was fantastic. Just want to be sure i am not doing long term damage.I had 8,200 lbs on my 2020 Hemi 1500 4x4 with the 3.92’s a couple weeks back and I went up some big a$$ hills and saw about 250 on oil tempe and 225 on coolant. Same as yours essentially, motor pulled strong as hell and didn’t feel overworked. Temps dropped right down after hills. I’m also in az though and it was 109 degrees when I towed.
It's a good idea to use the Tow/Haul mode just about every time your towing. It keep the engine in the power band better and keeps the engine from lugging. These 8HP transmissions will run in the 200°F range without issues(there are several known worked hard for over 200K), the fluid used tolerates heat a lot better than ATF of yesteryear.Good idea to use Tow/Haul mode if the weight of the truck and trailer load exceed 75% of the GCWR for the truck. It is designed to keep the ATF temp as low as possible under the circumstances.
