Everyone I am looking for some input on my wheel choice. I am new here and am looking at getting 18" fuel octanes. I have a 2007 1500 4wd and will be doing a 2" leveling kit. The shop is recommending a 305/65/r18. I am looking for the aggressive look with some tire outside of the wheel well without getting carried away. Would it be ok to go a little wider.? Is anyone running a similar setup that could post pics so I could see what it would look like? Thank you guys!

Here's my old setup. 305/60/18 Terra Grappler on 18x9 with -12 offset. Your setup of 305/65/18 would be a tad taller. How much it sticks out depends on your wheel offset.

I will warn you about those 18" rims. The tires are expensive. You might be better off getting the same wheels in 20" instead. The 20" tires are cheap compared to the 18's.

Completely the opposite bud. Smaller wheels provide cheaper tires.

Thank you! That is exactly the kind of look I am wanting. Not sure the offset on the wheels I am not to educated with wheels all I know is they are fuel octane 18x9. Did you have bay rubbing issues?

Actually just looked at the quote it says +1 offset. Would that sit in more?

Not with that setup. I wasn't leveled either. With you planning a level, you should have no problem at all even with your 305/65 versus my 305/60. What kinda level are you thinking about? A spacer level or the Bilstein 5100 route?

Have fun looking for 18" tires. I looked for them at several sites and could find none available. Plus I went from 17" rims to 20" rims. I was gonna go to 18's but the cost of the tires was almost 2 times what 20" tires were. And this was at a Firestone tire shop. Not too mention that they would have had to special order the 18" tires because they did not stock them and the factory said it would be 4 to 6 weeks. 18" tires are hard to find and like I said more expensive due to that fact.

Where were you shopping dude? 18" tires are just as popular if not more than 17s and 20s. I spent a month looking and researching different tires before i bought my 295/70/18 trail grapplers. I had absolutely no problem whatsoever finding loads of 18" options. Anybody here will agree that the smaller the wheel, the less expensive the tire.

The shop advised a day star leveling so a strut spacer and then we were going to do a bilstein 4600 all the around. Would doing the 5100 be better? So with offset being plus 1 they probably wouldn't sit out as far as yours? And I misspoke mine will be 60 not 65.

I would definitely recommend the shocks over a spacer. I went with bilstein 5100 adjustables in the front with regular 5100s in the rear. Mounted 295/75/18 Trail Grapplers on my same wheels. With your method, you would be buying four shocks, AND a spacer kit. Rather than just four shocks where the two front ones level you out as well. And yes you are correct about the offset of +1 sitting more flush. Negatives push you out further.

Of course! Out of curiosity, how many miles on your rig? Have the shocks ever been changed before? Unfortunately, it's almost a guarantee that things will not go as planned.

Well you should be in better shape than i was. I replaced my original shocks at 85k miles lol. I love my bilstiens and for the price, they're perfect. I have no experience with Fox but from what i know, they're excellent shocks but with a pricetag worth thinking about. I highly recommend you read through my sticky thread, ill post it in an edit, let me find it.

Oh well that's not bad at all. I'd say read some reviews on both shocks. Here's the link to my thread, a huuuge number of people run into this problem on our year trucks, its basically guaranteed, so i decided to put a large amount of info in one area. Read through it all so you or your mechanic can be prepared.
