Thanks for the info. Since I have the 4.7, I'm guessing S&B and Vararam or not viable options for me. Would the Airaid MXP be a good alternative?

The truck is a 2012 1500 ST, 5.7L hemi 2wd.
the exhaust is sligthly modded, running stock cats to a
summit racing muffler and a turndown. (3" single)
I do not have a tuner or anything for the truck.

If I go with a K&N or Air Raid intake, will it poorly effect the
performance or fuel economy because of the way the computer
is set up to make the engine run? will it end up fouling up the mass
airflow sensors or oxygen sensors?
Is it a good idea to wait on the intake and get a tuner instead, and get
the intake later?

your feedback is much appreciated!
Get the one you can afford. To do it right, you'll want either the S&B or Vararam and an 85mm ported throttle body (TB) from Moe's--total bill about $600-650.

The 5.7L is choked by the articulated intake pipe, cheap OEM air filter and narrow factory 80mm TB.

You'll need to do a little homework here on the forum--but no one has ever complained about the TB. And it's all going to work fine with the computer and not throw any codes.

If you're a deep water mudder, a CAI poses some risk. If you don't want more noise in the cab, a CAI may not be for you. But if you are a mostly road driver and don;t go puddle chasing, then the S&B or Vararam are your best choice for CAI. The TB is something unique to the Hemi and because Moe's supplier starts with a stock OEM TB before the C&C porting process, it will never be an issue with dealer warranty.

Happy truck'n!:party36:

They machine the cylinder in which the butterfly valve sits out to a wider diameter to allow more air flow. However, Moe's throttle bodies are a little different since they are ported instead of a straight through bore. Think of them as a truncated cone which opens at 85 mm, and reduces to 80 mm at the butterfly valve then opens back up below the valve.

what exactly is the "ported" throttle body? is it just a wider opening/more airflow?

Correct. Our ported throttle bodies are OE factory TB's and we port the inside. The larger port give more airflow for an increase in power, and the tapered port shape we use gives you an increase in airspeed which also gives a nice increase in throttle response. Its a very tough mod to beat for the money. Very simple to install and very effective.
