Sorry if this is a repeat. Though my search results were not very clear. I've been wanting to get a tuner for my 2016 ram 1500 5.7. I've heard the horror stories about the cam fails and how most people beleive it to be related to the MDS system. My question is which tuner would you gents/ladies recomemnd for someone who has a stock truck, main concern is to disable the MDS permently. In the future I plan on doing intake/Exhaust. Just wanted to pay down the Truck more before making those steps.

I also know since I have a 2016 I will need an unlocked PCM. Thanks in advance.

I have 2016 2500. I run my trinity with a custom tune from HEMIFEVER Sean disabled my MDS in the tune.

You can disable it for free by using the gear selector on the steering wheel. Just select 8 & it will shift normal but stay out of mds

I actually started doing that the other day. Seem like Ram would have given us an option in the menu to keep it off instead of doing it every time we shift to drive.

That would be a really nice software feature add now that you mention it. Many other vehicles actually have an “eco” button that does this as well. My wife’s Honda Accord has this feature. Granted it doesn’t have a MDS equivalent since it’s only an I-4, but still a nice feature. It also has memory so once you enable ECO mode it is “always on” until you disable it via the button, and once disabled, ECO mode stays off until you enable it again via the button, regardless of how many times you cycle the engine.

I have a Trinity and use it to disable the MDS in my truck. My truck isn't tuned in any way, shape or form, I just got sick of using the + and - buttons every time I want to drive. Like Ron Popeil says "Set it, and forget it!"

You might check with Matt at Moe's Performance and see if he has any Black Friday specials on a Diablo and PCM with the Hemifever tune.

That looks great and all, but 199 for something that seems like it's still going through the R&D department might not be worth it. Good find though.

They work great. Alot of people use them in the Camaro world. We have a 2018 RS & am on a bunch of the Camaro groups also. Everyone from the V6 guys to the 6.2 guys that want to retain the stock tune.

So in your opinion, would you do this or go for the diabo tuner?

For myself personally with the V6 Camaro I'm going to get 1 due to the wife being adamant about keeping the warranty on it. Lol As far as the Ram goes its all in what you want. The tuning for Ram is way better than the V6 Camaro tuning, about the 1st time anyone can say Mopar tuning is better than GM but thats just because nobody cares about V6 Camaros. Lol If you want more overall power get the Diablo hands down. However if your solely after just MDS delete & keep your warranty then get the Range. I havent seen any bad post about them on the Camaro pages. There is also a device called the Tazer that alot of the 6.4 Scat Pack guys use that turns off mds. There is 1 for Ram but not sure if it turns off mds. I would have to go look. It does have some cool extra features of its own

Looking online I'm not seeing where the tazer can turn of the MDS. Would've been nice I see some good features.

Does the rangetech require you to leave the unit in the OBD port, or is it like a genie where you install it, let it do it's thing, them remove? The instructions aren't available on the website unles you signup/signin.

320 hp V6 in a Camero is a great combo. Cheaper to buy, and insure. A little lighter and better mpg. Some V6s sound pretty good too. But the deal breaker for most guys: It's available with a bigger engine. Never mind you can't use the bigger engine 99% of the time.
