So...

I ordered a BakFlip F1 and installed it - all good. Looks good and feels good. No problems. Over the last few days we got a good rain storm, and I open my tailgate to find a lot of my gear wet. The cover leaks BADLY. Actually badly does not cover it. It leaks so bad, it's now useless to me, as I can't safely travel anywhere with gear in the bed. If it rains, it all gets wet.

2 main areas it leaks - up the front near the cab in the corner. (I may be able to stem the tide with some silicon, if I get creative)

The other is right across the middle where it folds. Water just beads up under the join, and starts dripping like a tap right in the middle of the bed.

$2000 to get it here, and now basically is worthless.

Anyone else got issues - and now I need to look for a better cover, and probably spend more coin that I don't have. But it's my work car, so I need it to keep the rain out! :(

Sorry to hear about your problems there mate! I have had Undercover hard covers on my last 3-4 trucks and never had anything get wet at all and that's going through both carwashes and even several hurricanes. Of course with a hard folding cover you aren't going to be able to carry anything very tall back there but its guaranteed to be dry and secure. If money was no object I would go with a Retrax retractable cover and I believe even they leak a little bit. Good luck on getting everything sorted out.

I have an Extang hard trifold cover and it also leaks, not bad but it leaks. I called the company and was told they are not waterproof.

Yeah it sux. I did a bit of reading before I bought it and their web site gives all indications that it keeps the water out. So not very happy right now. :(

It’s pretty much a waste of time having it - other than for security as any weather is going to see my gear get wet.

On my 3rd backflip now(3 differnt trucks). All of them have leaked some. I knew it going it and I don’t think that they claim they completely keep water out.

Thats unfortunate! I looked at getting a bakflip but couldnt stomach the cost of it lol. I ended up buying an enthuze hard bi-fold cover and i have to say it has been amazing and keeps the water out

My Bak Revolver x2 lets a VERY small amount if water in only in a touchless car wash (high pressure driven against the seals).

You might try to contact their customer service, I have heard they are good.

Sorry to hear about your plight.

I've had a Bak F1 since 2014 and I have great experience with it, it's always dry in the bed, even after heavy rain storms. Only issue is the black gel coating of the panels is sun fading slightly on mine. A buddy of mine got his the same time, his has zero issues at all. I do know the drain tubes do work, if I pull a tube off some water may come out, and I know it does drain out under the truck.
Are your tubes blocked or any thing???

I honestly believe my Bakflip VP is falling to pieces because it doesn't leak. The weight of the water pooling has separated the metal panels from the foam cores. You can't tell until you open it though.

Ram guys sure are obsessed over bakflip, but undercover always is rated higher. Still haven't made up my mind on one or the other.

I didnt see an equivalent Undercover to the Revolver X2.

Locking rails, 99%+ waterproof, easily removable rails, rolls up to front, rather than flipping, leaves visibility out rear intact when using full bed, secure from thieves....

Common sense isn't...nor is common decency.

It’s such a pain. We can’t get these down here easily. Just a pain.

So had another look at the cover today and noticed a couple of things. Someone must of had a bad day at the Bakflip factory. The seals on side that lets water in are shorter than the other. See images.

I’ve got myself some high grade Sika and am going to have a go at sealing this thing. I have work to do and can’t afford to wait.

I’ll send some shots later of the attempted fix. But will need to wait a few days to get it tested. I don’t want to wet it down until it’s completely cured.

Oh by the way that dark streak on the left of the drain is a 2 inch steam of water from the front. Not fun. Lol.

Some sika should solve that though.

More to come.

OK... So fingers crossed I have sealed this baby.

I added Sika to everywhere I needed - especially in that area where the seal was bad. The front corner seal was also bad - the seal was cut shorter than the left side, hence all the water getting in.

My recommendation to Bak Industries will be to get on top of their QnA. All these leaks are because someone at the factory either didn't do their job correctly, or didn't check it to make sure it was done correctly. In either case, the result is bad.

I also ran Sika right across the frame that was leaking - across the middle. You can't see it. ( I am a glazier by trade, so running silicone is something I do) :) Anyways... Also ran a bead up behind the bulkhead seal, and in the corners of the bed up front. This should go a long way to keeping the water out. I will know in a few days and report back.

I would also say to let BAK Industries know about your troubles. You might be surprised at their response...

Concur. I have a Bakflip G2 and the customer service was great when I told them I needed replacement hardware for the Bakbox.

So...

Who else owns a leaky Bakflip...

Everyone, sooner or later. :(

Sorry, don't mean to be flippant, but with these hard folders, they all leak at some point. I did extensive research before buying one - Bak, Extang, Undercover, G4, Gator, Rugged/Lund, Lomax, etc. There are just too many joints and seals on these. That's where fabic roll ups or even folders and solid tops have the advantage.

Search "Brand X leaks" on Google or Youtube and you'll find someone with an issue for pretty much every hard folder out there.
